It all boils down to three things, geography, skills, what the work you are looking for is.

If you are looking for a construction job or assembly forget it.

I am unemployed right now..... but it is like being on holidays! It helps to live in a little beachside village!

I have some part time work when I want it...and yes the poster who said perhaps lower your standards and do whatever it takes, is correct.

My degree is worth squat at the moment.... but my back is strong, and I'm fit, and manual labour is cheaper than gym membership!

I worked as a Lead Generator for Home Depot in one of the Million Dollar stores in the St. Louis area, originally they had planned to open 100 stores a year all over the country. Slowly the housing market took a dip, the first thing the company as a whole did was to let go of all but 2 HR Reps for each district; this allowed them to put more "Aprons" on the floor. Of course the housing market continued to dip, and sales dropped. I had an opportunity to get out and did, I now own my own business shipping food and medical supplies around the lower 48 as a contractor. I got lucky.

I can only say that I try to do my part, SPEND, but I also see the effects across the country as freight drops. Companies do not want to pay their dock workers what they need to live and end up hiring cheaper labor. The cost of Fuel has gone down by almost half from what it was last September, and yet the fuel stops have less and less people working in them as the months tick by.

I hope the best for anyone looking for work and money making opportunities. It is tough we just have to stick together and try to help anyway we can.

What kinds of jobs are you looking for? Have you tried looking in areas you haven't worked in before? What about part time jobs? Or staffing agencies? Something is better than nothing..

I agree with this so much.. I am thankful for my job. I have a son that was telling me he was laid off this season, when I asked him if he was going ot look for something else. His response really bothered me since He stated "Hell No.. I will take it off and let my unemployment kick in till the winter season starts.. I was actually shocked by this behavior.

I have always been a person if I didn't have a job I would do any job to be employed.. It is easier to get a job if you are already working than not.

My heart goes out to all that are laid off and looking hard for work.

I work in construction and we are busy.

But I have heard that it hasn't hit Texas like it has other states.

Sorry for those of you who have lost their jobs. I am sure it is tough flowerforyou
