Ok, lemme ask ya this one then....

Looking back over these past relationships that ended so badly or went so roughly, was there ever a common theme? And don't say "Yes they were with women" either, that's a cop out.

I married an abuser the first time, learned to stay the h*ll away from those, a lazy jerk the second time, and a momma's boy the third time. I've learned ALOT lol

Lex, you wanna address this one? You can do it much more eloquently than I can.

Back in the old days (ancient world of 2006), I used to think it would be possible to meet someone on a dating site. Well, it was, and I did -- nine times (not from this site, though) -- and they all turned out to be disasters of megacatastrophic proportions. I can say, without fear of exaggeration, that each experience was a trillion times worse than the Krakatoa eruption.

But I did run into some great friends here, people I enjoy talking to, etc., and it's a fantastic place to talk to people about my books, my writing, life in general....and then they asked me to be a forum moderator, and that's been a tremendous learning experience.

So -- aside from the fact that it's become abundantly clear that the type of person I'm looking for simply does not use dating sites, I love everything else about this place.

Yes. I wasn't selective enough. I either didn't yet have a handle on what it was I truly wanted, or I compromised those standards in an attempt to push the square peg into the round hole (metaphorically speaking). My mistake, entirely.

But I would like to think that I've learned enough to avoid making that sort of mistake again.
