Well, I'm with Mikey, any word that is used to demean another human being shouldn't be used. Not because it's politically correct, but simply because it's the right thing to do. I grew up in a family of racists and verbal abusers. Because of that, there are certain words that are not in my vocabulary or in my son's. I was hurt by words and I try never to use words that hurt, belittle or demean someone else.
People say sticks and stones can break your bones but words can't hurt? I call BS. Bruises and scars fade away but the words are just as hurtful and stay with you far longer. |

mikey i agree words hurt but most people dont stop and think how hurtfull they can be you never know who over hears you youll never know how many hearts you break when things just come out of the mouth so freely

Dan, I have never understood (and probably never will and certainly don't care much) why you get so defensive? You are certainly free to disagree or agree but I don't get your need to be so argumentative. You have your view, you expressed it. Cool. But why so belligerent in trying to force someone to your viewpoint?

I understand where Mikey is coming from. The use of the word retarded should be done away with when applied to people with disabilities either mental or not. Its degrading to hear it being used . And I am sure that being PC does suc most times. But there are times that we do show our lack of compassion and sensitvity to others.
OR look at this way... better to engage your brain before you open your mouth?.. to many to often don't do that.. Including myself at times. |

I would like to see the "retarded" word elimanated out of peoples vocabulary!! It is a movement that is taking National attention to make people more aware of how demeameaning that word is to some very special people. Here In Nebraska, we have the Special Olympics we are hosting next weekend which I vollenteer every year to help out. They are AMAZING in how much pure love and Joy they have for people and its just not politically correct to do so, its the RIGHT thing to do!!! then how would you describe the retarding of the fuel flow to the engine dang someone beat me to it lol any demeaning comment is uncalled for but where will the censorship stop sorry i will need to disagree with censorship |
