“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love and affection than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found anywhere. You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”

“Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.”

“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense.”

“Three things cannot be long hidden: the sun, the moon, and the truth.”

“An insincere and evil friend is more to be feared than a wild beast; a wild beast may wound your body, but an evil friend will wound your mind.”

“The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed.”

“Virtue is persecuted more by the wicked than it is loved by the good.”

“Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it.”

“Work out your own salvation. Do not depend on others.”

“Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it.”

“He who loves 50 people has 50 woes; he who loves no one has no woes.”

“Life is suffering.”

“Holding on to anger is like grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the one who gets burned.”

“Unity can only be manifested by the Binary. Unity itself and the idea of Unity are already two.”

“We are formed and molded by our thoughts. Those whose minds are shaped by selfless thoughts give joy when they speak or act. Joy follows them like a shadow that never leaves them.”

I don't practice or believe in any religion, but there seems to be a lack of post on non Abrahamic religions. Just doing my part to broaden our minds and discussions.

Buddhism is my favorite practice and I am getting very good at meditating. I feel relaxed, have a clearer mind, and even deal with certain situations better then I use to. I am glad to have been introduced to it twice in my life.

Unfortunately in the Buddhist thread there are no conversations. It seems like the slowest religion thread on Mingle. Either everyone mentally agrees or everyone just doesn't have anything specific to say. There is nothing wrong with this. I think it is a good thing actually.

Buddha's quotes and teachings are beautiful and well said. I encourage everyone to read them when they have some time to offer. One doesn't have to be a Buddhist to read up on Buddhism. One can take what works best for them.

May Buddha's wisdom endure in everyone each day so we can live in peace together as neighbors...as friends.
