Department of Veterans Affairs representatives chat with troops returning from a two-month deployment in Iraq, Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at Homestead Air Reserve Base, Florida.
Washington, DC - Montana's senior US senator, Max Baucus, introduced an important piece of legislation last week that would require stepped-up mental health screenings for all America's combat troops.

It is about time, well way past due for this. Our soldiers have to have better care from us.

I think i may have gotten a rare bunch, but i have always been happy with the VA care a received. My uncle is the same way. Hell the VA cured his cancer with stem cell treatment in a matter of months...

It was a very logical counter argument to me being against national health care, since i am basically using socialized medicine and happy with it.:wink:flowerforyou
That is for another discussion anyways.

Our vets need to be taken care of, i'm all about that.drinker

Considering the suicide rate among the returning vets, there is something missing.

I am glad to hear of your successes though.

It's a surprisingly rough transition... Complete change of lifestyle.

I heard on top of suicide rates vets were buying fast cars/bikes and getting themselves killed by pushing their limits too far. They need to be taken care of. But more importantly i think they need to talk to one another. Support groups, stuff like that. It's amazing how alienated you feel from the general population for a long time. I would love to see more support groups start up. The only thing that kept my sanity is being able to talk to my old buddies about this stuff.

It is good you knew how to reach out, I think some people, like me, internalize instead of reaching out and that can be extremely bad for some mental health issues.

That is just fantastic!!!

The VA psych. department here is backlogged. There is a waiting list. I have a friend that can only see his psychiatrist every other month for 45 minutes.

I worked in the VA psych. ward. This truly touches my heart.
