Topic: An American looking out for US!! | |

Good Ole Abe.
The only president to ever order a US General to wage total war on Americans. Wasn't it Abe that authorized General Sheridan to march from atlanta to the sea and destroy every farm, man, woman and child in a forty mile wide stretch along that march. wonder how he slept at night. |
Actually it was more like 60 miles wide and the war was already
basically won for the north. It was done out of vengence in my opinion. |
It was done to insure that those properties would not be producing money
to combat the carpetbaggers that followed the cessation of hostilities. It prevented the south from being able to recover economically untill the north had a chance to secure a stable financial base in the area and control the economy of the area. Its all about money most of the time. |

A valid point you have there AB. Sherman I think was acting out of
vengence. The higher ups had the plans you speak of IMO. My family was living here during that time so I've heard the stories that were passed down. |
I have a story that was passed down about that time in our history.
Several of my family members were hung for participating in the conspiracy to assinate that president. What was passed down was the reason for such action. Their reason for perticipating was because of shermans dispicable actions authorized by that president. |
Well that is one of those things that has been glossed over by history.
The winners write the history books. Are you aware that the Union had earlier tried to assasinate Jefferson Davis in the Dahlgren Raid? Most folks don't know about that. |

Atlanta fell to Sherman on the 1st of sept 1864.
Lee surrendered on April 9, 1865. |

Dates are way off.....
Sorry gents.. wrong war maybe??? |

we did get a bit off topic...lol...... but I was enjoying the discussion
And he didnt march in unimpeded he almost didnt march in at all
from their he went to Charleston then the war ended and he drove North through the Shenandoah Valley. He started his march on Atlanta from Tennessee. |

well yes he went from Chattanooga to Atlanta to Savannah to Columbia, SC
and was making his way north through NC when Lee surrendered. And actually Johnston surrendered his army to Sherman. |

Tax the rich again. what is going to happen when there are no more rich
people. As it is now the richest 1% of the U.S. population pay a total of 37% of the total income tax paid. The richest 5% of the U.S. population pay a total of 52% of the total income tax paid. The bottom 50% of the us tax payers pay a total of 3% of the total income tax paid. When there are no more rich to pay taxes who is going to support all these give away social program that the liberals use to buy votes now. Socialism don't work, the communists spent 75 years proving that, why do the liberals think we need to re prove that lesson in this country. |
Tax the rich makes for a good battle cry.
Since the majority of voters are not in any way rich. What better way to rally them the to make them think they are downtrodden. |

I saw on the news Fri. where a CEO for Exxon made $647,000,000
last year. Give me a ****ing break. I think they can afford more than me.. Edwards med plan for all Americans was estimated to cost $120 billion. They are asking for more than that in one year to fund the war! |
