Abby (apparently that's the name gram and the kiddo named her) slept all night in bed with me on an old blanket.

This morning I got several syringes of sugar water down her and a small small bit of liquid off the canned dog food that I watered down.

She's not offering to eat or drink much yet on her own, but did have a little bit of energy after I gave her the water. Pooped x1 too, yay!

I already have a big outdoor kennel with a dog house so today I'm going to put her in there and run to Walmart to get some flea shampoo and ear wash and stuff. If she'll allow me, I'll clean her up a bit.

I was once told to put chicken broth in the water to see if she will drink. might try that maybe it would help.
Not eating-drinking is not a sign.

The best way to check for fleas is to brush her with a fine tooth comb. Tap the comb on a white paper towel to get whatever is on there off. Wet the stuff on the paper towel slightly. Then gently rub it. If there is red stuff, kind of like dry blood, then you've got fleas. What you are actually checking for is flea dirt (aka flea poop). Since fleas suck blood, it will be in their poop as well. The problem with flea shampoo is that the adults live on the animal but the eggs get into carpeting, upholstery, etc. So even if the shampoo works, she will still get reinfected from what's in the environment. And in case she has worms, I would wash your hands really well after petting her. And yes, people can get it.

Thanks all! I managed to get 50 cc's of water with canned dog food broth into her just now. I think that was a good amount for such a little dog. That tent test did seem positive to me, so she's probably dehydrated somewhat.

Awwwwwwww, thanks guys. To be totally honest, I'm doing it for my kiddo, not myself (well, and for the dog of course). I have enough things to take care of as it is.

The dog is doing well. Drinking more through the syringe and actually ate a bit of dry food. She's got a fancy new collar and leash and peed outside a couple of times. So we are making progress!

Oh, and she has adopted my daughter's stuffed animal as her own. Doesn't chew it, just carries it around.

 I had made bacon earlier that morning for breakfast, but the dog wouldn't eat it. I think because she still wasn't eating ANY food. I swear to you we gave her a piece though! It was turkey bacon, does that count?

How nice!!!

Abby is doing quite well today. She spent the day in our outdoor kennel (it's huge, used to house a lab...laugh ) and apparently after some howling in protest for a few minutes, she settled down and was quiet for the rest of the day. I didn't even know the dog knew how to bark!

When I came home she was wagging her tail in greeting, which is new. She came inside and ate a small bit of food and drank some water. All these things show improvement! She even bounced around the house for awhile when my kiddo came home and seemed "almost" normal. Right now she is sleeping on my couch..spock Not a habit I should have started. Wednesday I will take her to the vet and see if there is anything really wrong with her.

I need to get a picture on here too!

Thank you so much for the great posts and the concern for the lil' pooch.

Quick lil' update. The vet trip has been postponed because my bank account got suspended due to "suspicious activity". They issued me all new stuff but apparently it takes a couple days for all that to happen. How annoying. Thankfully the dog is doing great and I didn't need to go borrow cash from someone to take her (who carries cash anymore...although today I wish I did!).

Anyhow, the dog is eating and drinking quite good now and has enjoyed trips around town and to the park. She's still quite skittish and doesn't like to be approached fast, but never has offered to growl or bite. She has a very good temperament and does well with the kids. We have decided to make her a permanent part of our family.

On another note.......here's a heartbreaking story about animals. It has happened here locally where I live. I hope they can find who did this.

Get a hold of Cesar Millan and hire him.

He'll know what to do.
