What are good places to meet people for friendship or dating. Bars and clubs aren't for me.

My favorite place to take a date is an amusement park. But, if I'm not feeling it I will take her to city hall and tell her I am tired of being alone and want to be with her forever; that usually works.

I have never found any particular place that I would associate with meeting people, per se. I don't drink, and I don't go to bars, so that's out anyway.
The vast majority of the people I've been involved with have been people I met through friends -- so there was really no particular place involved.... |

Two large bookstores here in town both have excellent coffee bars, one has live, usually acoustic music in the basement.
