The parents of a British teen, who died suddenly two months ago, received a disturbing letter from the girl's high school saying she needs to improve her attendance or can't go to the prom, the Manchester Evening News reported.
The letter said Megan Gillan's attendance was 60.4 percent and the school requires its students to keep a 92 percent attendance record. "I screamed when I first saw it," her mother Margaret Gillan told the newspaper. If they want her to attend that much I'll take Megan's remains. It's disgusting." Gillan was found dead Jan. 19 in her bedroom at her parent's home. The letter was dated March 16. "Megan would have loved going to the prom," her mother said. "She planned to go with a group of friends, she was really looking forward to it." A school spokesman apologized and told the Manchester Evening News, "that letter should not have gone out," and blamed it on a "software error." Yeah "Software Error"! the Headline Sounds Like Something From the Onion. |

While I feel for the woman, most attendance records are software now aren't they, we do have much more to keep track of these day. I am sure if it was not done by software one might have more reason to be so angry. Maybe I'm wrong.. |

IMO I Would Believe that When a Student Dies (Particularly during the Semester) that Someone Would Remove Her From the Data Base! so to Me this is Human Error. |

![]() there's No Doubt there Busy but C'mon, a Child Dies and No One Thinks to Remove their Name? How Many Phone Calls Did the School get From Parents Asking Where to Send Flowers or Her Friends asking About a Moment of Silence or Something! and No One Thought to Remove Her Name? |

could have just been an oversight. if people are calling (which the schools here can't give out personal info like that) then that is even more work. I'm not saying I don't feel for the parents pain....I do. I am saying (for whoever called them that in here) that it could have been a simple mistake. everyone makes them. should I call others dumb a$$es for honest mistakes???? it wasn't done maliciously....it was an oversight. for all we know....they could have taken her out of the system (or thought they did) but the computer didn't take it or they thought they saved the change but didn't. who knows. but VERY judgemental to make a blanket statement like dumb a$$es.
|
|
|
|
BTW...the people that I would refer to as dumb a$$es are those that don't care how things effect others and they do what they want or the people that (in this case) don't learn from mistakes

However we all are probably going to jump to conclusions when there any number of things that could have happened innocently enough. Human error, computer error. |

I may be wrong...... but I can't think so. "Worlds apart" is not about continents any more.... it's about the "haves and have nots"
Government officials live and make policy without a clue how the other half lives and the effects of their decisions. Here or the UK, it's all about who can offer more to get their vote. They are all politicans.... Corporate "yes men"! |

I don't trust politicians any farther than I can throw them myself. my point of mypost is assuming they are stupid without even knowing the circumstances. I can't imagine getting that letter if my child passed away, but as a 3rd party now....i can see that there could be innocent reasons or mistakes behind it
