Conyers suggests probe of ACORN
Calls fraud charges 'serious' S.A. Miller (Contact) Friday, March 20, 2009 http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2009/mar/20/conyers-suggests-probe-of-acorn/ In an startling partisan shift, House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers Jr. on Thursday proposed holding hearings on claims the liberal activist group ACORN engaged in a pattern of crimes ranging from voter fraud to a mob-style “protection” racket. Mr. Conyers, Michigan Democrat and fierce partisan, suggested a congressional probe after scathing testimony about the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) during a hearing on various voting issues related to the 2008 presidential election. Mr. Conyers called the accusations “a pretty serious matter.” “I think that it would be something that would be worth our time,” he said during Thursday's hearing. “We've never had one person representing ACORN before the committee. ... I think in all fairness we ought to really examine it.” The testimony by Pittsburgh lawyer Heather Heidelbaugh accused the nonprofit group of violating tax, campaign-finance and other laws by, among other things, sharing with the Barack Obama campaign a list of the Democrat's maxed-out campaign donors so ACORN could use it to solicit them for a get-out-the-vote drive. She also testified that the Democrat-allied group provided liberal causes with protest-for-hire services and coerced donations from targets of demonstrations through a shakedown it called the “muscle for the money” program. |

The DNC is a greater act of fraud than the GOP.
Face it, the Kennedy clan have criminal roots! So do many others! |

The DNC is a greater act of fraud than the GOP. Face it, the Kennedy clan have criminal roots! So do many others! With the criminal background of Republicans and the amount of criminal activity in the republican party in general they have no room to talk at all. They already tried this before the election and they didn't find anything of significance then so why waste our tax dollars to repeat it. |

Can you type a reply without mentioning republicans?
If you recall, Democrats were in control of congress during the election. |

|
|
the point is, if the Democrats are calling for an investigation of ACORN then there must be something really wrong there

Can you type a reply without mentioning republicans? If you recall, Democrats were in control of congress during the election. Can you? Can you reply without using Democrats, liberals, progressives, socialists, etc... in yours? It is a forum and my opinion is as good as anyone elses. |

Who investigated this? The House Judiciary Committee? I don't think so. Conyers said himself that there has never been anyone from ACORN testify before his committee.

You have a habit of injecting republicans into a debate, when the subject of the thread has nothing to do with them.

There have been accusations leveled at ACORN for a few years and every time they've been investigated nothing has turned up. There have been 'mistakes' made during voter registration by over zealous workers, but that's not limited to ACORN or to liberal/progressive organizations. As far as I know, any registration irregularities have not turned into votes, so there has been no voter fraud. We all heard the stories about the Disney characters being registered, but don't you think if Mickey Mouse showed up to vote there'd be some real serious questions? Could it be that Conyers wants the hearings to show that ACORN is not the ruthless, evil organization that some people want it to be?

I think he was just asking you not to hijack his thread Oh, he should have said that. Sounded like censureship on his thread to me. Sorry OP for taking the thread to another level if that is what I did. |

the point is, if the Democrats are calling for an investigation of ACORN then there must be something really wrong there They already tried this before the election and they didn't find anything of significance then so why waste our tax dollars to repeat it. This is the point. according to the article....“We've never had one person representing ACORN before the committee. ... I think in all fairness we ought to really examine it." so therefore....this is different. we are spending taxpayers money on blueberries and other things like that.....why not this? thedifference is....this would be fraud |

This is the same old same old stuff from the campaign. It's used to keep everyone angry about the result of the race. Geez you'd think we would have .......oh never mind it's clearly not worth it.

ACORN has always been aligned and associated with the Democratic party. Sort of like the NRA is aligned with the Republicans
Republicans have been calling for an investigation of ACORN for years and the Democrats defended em. If the Democrats are now calling for an investigation then some of the voter fraud charges are probably more rampant than we knew |
