Photo's can make or break your profile.

Useing no photo will dramatically reduce your responses.

Lead shots are critical. Most often viewed in a thumbnail version it helps if it clear and engageing.

A smile, or at least a calm appearance, will greatly enhance connecting with other readers.

Keep it very clear who is the person who's profile it is linked to. Photo's of friends, family member's, pets can tell a story of who you are but make sure it is promoteing you.

Composition does count. If it is a picture that has something sprouting from your ear, obviously taken in a bathroom or by yourself and distorts your porportions rethink useing it. Colors and lighting do count. Dark dreary colors tend to be negative. Don't use poorly cropped photos. Some photos can be great simply photo shopping the confuseing background or other negatives out with enlargement and good cropping. Photos where you are slightly off center will avoid the feeling of a mug shot. Clear crisp photos are more up beat just say an inviteing Hello; pick me. Commercial photos are often good for lead shots but need to be followed up with snapshots of the daily you.

Photos of kids are recieved with mixed reviews. Many people still frown on it. Photos of grandchildren can be mistaken as yours. Useing photos of others children will suggest you are a single parent and sometimes have you deleted before they even read your text. Same goes for shots with pets.

Photos do tell a story make sure you are not revealing something that can tell people something more personal than you would tell a stranger. Avoid photo's that show your address, license plate number, or work place. They are great for showing a favorite hobby, music, sport, or vacation. Photos that show something that a date can share with you should be a priority.

Photo's can "weed out" people who will reject you for race, disability, religious affiliation, tatoos, unusual job, or special interest. My personal belief this is superior to getting shot down later or making a declaration but it is frusterateing to make the effort to communicate with someone to find out later they are not going to give you a chance.

Bedroom shots are usually considered a red flag as are shots with more skin than you would go to the cafe/grocery store in. Pictures with party materials or tobacco generally give that a high priority in your life. Same goes with multiple pictures of high ticket vehicals or hobbies.

Changeing your lead shot if you have other good shots or funny avitars can reflect your interests or seasonal greetings for frequent users.

For those who are "allergic" to pictures make and effort to get over it. Get a cheap high speed indoor out door camera and over a few days make a photo journal of who you are. Wear different outfits and shoot things you commonly do. Enlist a friend or even a stranger. Most people are glad to take a snap. Then print them off to disk. If you don't have a computer take them to and office support business and most will print and email them where you want. So will a public library.
