when i conduct interviews, i am not allowed to ask about a person's life, including their parental status. i'm required to steer the conversation elsewhere. it's very strange for me because in the old days i wanted to know as much about a person as possible...to get a "feel" for them before hiring them.
i'm only allowed to ask about work performance. how a candidate handled certain issues...but i can't even ask if they left notice. go figure. as i have special-needs kids, i receive "reasonable accommodations" (one set day off for doc's appointments) which did necessitate speaking to management about said children. |
