A couple of years ago I got basic cable. I only have it to get better reception on the TV. I don't have regular cable because I don't want my child to be a couch potato or watch too adult of shows. I just got the internet, two years ago. I only spend about $50/month on the two.

You'll be missed.flowerforyou

I only have basic cable. So, I don't spend a whole lot on cable/internet. But no, I wouldn't disconnect them for a year.

I just disconnected my landline phone.

I did that a year ago ..

We hardly ever watch TV ..

I could not disconnect Internet though. My kids use it for school and I look for work on line (which most companies are using online apps anyway) .. so that's not happening any time soon.

Good luck to you Smiless

Well thank you very much. We will be travelling to Key West, Everglades, Miccussokee Reservation, Walt Disney, Sea World, as of other great places on our free time instead.

Do some barbecues, swim at the beach, and so forth.

I think it will do us good. drinker

Couldn't agree more. When I became a single parent 10 years ago, I started taking vacations with my kids .. we've been all over the US & time with your family away from distractions is amazingly revitalizing to your relationships.

We couldn't afford Disney World, but we saw lots of National Parks & stayed in great places.

Planning a trip to the beach this summer if things work out ..

Could you disconnect your cable and internet for a year or longer?

We (meaning my family) decided to do this so we can spend more quality time together without resorting to watching television as the first thing to do when we enter our house or spend hours on the internet.

We save $160.00 a month (Comcast), which equals $1920 a year!

For all those who know me (which is not alot.lol) I will be officially offline on the 28th this month.

I might be able to live without tv, but the internet is used for so much: news, learning, socializing & family cohesion, homework and my daughter's school communications/grades/assignments. I suppose if I had a full family/home life and no kid in school, it would be considered. Afterall, we lived without it for eons. But, then, we had tv for news at least. And a lot of papers are going belly up and becoming smaller, so......... Hmmmmmmmmmmmm!!

Yes I realize for many people this would be a hard decision. I don't have a hard time with it as I wasn't exposed to computers until a very late age. I was always a outdoors type of guy anyway that likes to write with pen and paper stilllaugh

Writing is my hobby by the waydrinker

We might even disconnect indefinitely if things go well. We can always rent or buy movies and documentaries if needed.

It is too soon to tell. We shall see.
