Muntazer al-Zaidi. was found guilty and sentenced to 3 years in prison. I think he deserves the medal of freedom.

He assaulted a United States President. The End.

Maybe he was just passing along a gift?

Maybe he just wanted Bush to have a nice pair of shoes???

i think you need a new pair of shoes fanta lol

In middle eastern countries, throwing a shoe has more significance than let's say in the USA.

When the Saddam statue was brought down, people were beating it with their shoes. It means they wish you to be punished and basically if you get thrown by it or just waiving at you with a shoe is actually the worst thing you could get, that still counts as an "acceptable" form of showing their "displeasure".

so logically over there it is a serious crime compared to here?

here it's an assault. is it only an insult there?

The shoe throwing was an insult, not an assault.

It waa a crime where it happened because it is against the law there to publicly insult invited heads of state.

That said, I was personally thrilled that someone had the nerve and fortitude to stand up for their beliefs.

Former President Bush commented that it was a good development, concluding that freedom of expression was alive and therefore he had somehow slightly succeeded in his foreign policy.

The man did know the consequences of his actions... as did Patriots dumping tea into Boston Harbor.

Sometimes it takes brave acts and self sacrifice to to gain a greater good.

The man is a local folk hero now... much like Paul Revere is in American culture.

I diaagree with the 3 year sentence but the sentence could have been much harsher and I suspect it will be suspended before it comes to full term.
