Topic: Execution Stayed -- | |
---|---|
There was an inmate sentenced to death at midnight tonight, but our state has stayed his execution over some concerns over the lethal injection.
The family of his victim is devastated - in 1991 he spent 30 hours torturing, raping and murdering a woman and her body was found in a car trunk. Sometimes it is too bad the punishment can't fit the crime. She suffered for 30 hours and he was going to get a quick shot in the arm. I worked in the prison system at the time and I remember this case really well. Guess I have become cynical and jaded in my old age, sorry if I have offended anyone, but this is one scary inmate. |

I just saw that. Some inmates are contesting lethal injection because it might hurt.

I wonder how much she hurt. I remember this guy's case really well. He is so scary, you don't ever want him on the streets again.

It bothers me that they can get away with this garbage. They torture their victims and then cry - 'Please don't hurt me!'

since the prisononers don't like sex offenders too much i'm pretty sure he had well more than 30 hrs of being someone's b****!!!!!!!

He has been on death row - in protective custody (solitary) the whole time. So he has cost the state a huge amount of money to protect him from the other inmates as well, we have to keep HIM safe.

i find that amusing that we spend all this money on a piece of crap like that to keep him alive and well only to kill him later.

It is called our "justice system."

Well... they don't bother with "prisoner's rights" in such places as China- if you're caught, they just drag your sorry ass out to the back of a building and they put a bullet in the back of your head.
Perhaps there should be a similar thing in place for some of these murders, as they certainly do deserve it. |

I really am a nonviolent person, but with some of the stuff I read while I worked in the system, I have to agree with you on this. There are a lot of inmates in the system that are a waste of oxygen. |

there's a lot of people in general that are a waste of oxygen, but murder, rape, any crime against a child, attempted murder with specs, etc should all carry the death penalty

I don't buy the whole "execution costs more than life imprisonment" either- after all, it only costs 60-cents for a 9mm FMJ bullet. That's all you need to put an an obvious waste of human flesh down for good, you know?
I'm all for a fair trial-by-jury, but if you're proven guilty of committing some heinous acts, you should be on the fast-track to a pine box. No waiting, no death-row- you get ONE chance to appeal the case, and you'd better have some GOOD evidence proving your point... cuz your date with the 9mm slug in the back of your head will be moved up if it's found you're just masturbating the system with your crap. |

Agreed. But, many states don't practice the death penalty.
Also, in many states "life in prison" is 20 years, not actually "life" of the person so if a person is sentenced to "life" at the age of 18, say for killing someone, they can be set free at 38 years of age or become eligible for parole, even though they got a "life sentence." Each state is different, but this state uses the 20-year for life sentence. I don't know if they allow time off for good behavior on a life sentence or not. |

Then you have some states (like California) who are just underachievers and will go so far as to use what is called "third time", where the offending waste of human genetic material essentially serves 1/3 the time he/she was sentenced to. Instead of even going so far as to use the whole "third time" malarkey, just give them the sentence they're getting in the first place!

In WA they get either 1/4 or 1/3 off for "good" behavior, can't remember which. We have a 3 strikes law too, but that was even thrown out at one time, a bunch of legal jargon. They let them have lots of appeals on death row, one inmate had at least 8, figured each one cost the state at least $1 million dollars. He was guilty of murdering a little girl, her mother and grandmother, and admitted it if I remember correctly, then decided to appeal as he didn't want the death penalty. Cost the state a fortune, was on death row for something like 12 or more years. I agree with you, if the evidence is rock solid, DNA and all, give them one appeal, then it is over, no appeal after appeal and living on death row for decades. |

Yup. If the person's guilty of a heinous crime, the person's guilty of said heinous crime. No ifs, ands or buts- the piper must be paid.
