Topic: From Lincoln to Limbaugh

It seems to be official: Rush Limbaugh is the new unofficial head of the floundering Republican Party.

The media have been all over it in the past few days.

The GOP leadership grovels.

And the dittoheads rejoice, even as they fail to realize that this could be their Waterloo.

This latest media-rich expose' of the GOP status quo underscores the desperation of today's Republican Party: When you fall short on policy, you try to make up for it in noise. And that's about all that Limbaugh is good for. Well, that and fear and hate.

This is quite the de-evolution of the party of Abe Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt, which once was much more concerned with issues of conscience.

How bad is it? Just check out these charming quotes from the GOP's new Dear Leader:

"[Abu Ghraib] is no different than what happens at the Skull and Bones initiation...I'm talking about people having a good time, these people, you ever heard of emotional release? You ever heard of the need to blow some steam off?"

"Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier access to the mainstream of society."

"We're not sexists, we're chauvinists -- we're male chauvinist pigs, and we're happy to be because we think that's what men were destined to be. We think that's what women want."

"She comes to me when she wants to be fed. And after I feed her -- guess what -- she's off to wherever she wants to be in the house, until the next time she gets hungry. She's smart enough to know she can't feed herself. She's actually a very smart cat. She gets loved. She gets adoration. She gets petted. She gets fed. And she doesn't have to do anything for it, which is why I say this cat's taught me more about women, than anything my whole life."

"[Hillary Clinton] sounds like a screeching ex-wife."

"The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies."

"Look, let me put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said it."

And:

"Too many whites are getting away with drug use... Too many whites are getting away with drug sales... The answer is to go out and find the ones who are getting away with it, convict them, and send them up the river, too."

But then:

"I am addicted to prescription pain medication."

And just last week:

"So [Obama]'s moved on to health care. This is highly visible, it's news leading, gets a great focus, plus it has the great liberal lion Teddy Kennedy pushing it. Before it's all over it will be called the Ted Kennedy Memorial Health Care Bill."

And all that, dear reader, is the tip of the iceberg.

God bless America.

So what its your point? If you were not so brainwashed to know that 90% of what you quoted was taken out of context and most of them were made sarcastically. But people like you have no sense of humor..

Rush has a right to speak like anyone else.. But yet you vilify him for exercising his right to free speech.

You people are just pissed that 98% of what he says is actually factual.. I make it a rule when I hear people talking on tv or radio to look the things up myself. And have found more of what he says to be factual the Barrack Obama.

Barack promised transparency in government.. stating no ear marks, and bill will be posted online.. that did not happen

He said he would have more ethical cabinet.. Hiring a person who cheated on his taxes and putting him in charge of the IRS does not seem ethical to me. Let alone the ties to lobbyist he had to get waivers for.

Proposed spending of 5 TRILLION dollars makes any spending george bush did seem like chump change.

Not knowing how many states in the u.s. is a a concern.. Saying the united states invented the automobile.

Do I really have to go on ?

People say give him a chance.... Why should we.. did the dems give george bush a chance? Hell no.. from the day he was elected we got he is an illegal president..People criticized the way he spoke.. Well, the first thing we were taught in broadcasting school was to not say UH UM .. I can even listen to Obama speak when every other word is UH and UM... and they called bush and idiot.. give me a break.

I do not agree with everything bush did, I dont agree with everything repblicans do..

But the ruling force of the democrates are full of hate and intolerance of others.. they hate people who want to exercise thier religion, they were the first people to say obama wasnt black enough to be the first black president..

I get so sick and tired of people making comments and judgments that are so one sided.. they hear stuff on cnn and msnbc and think that is the truth.. Far from it...

WAKE UP AMERICA... slowly but surely people are waking up democrates are now starting to turn on obama and its not even been 60 days...
see yall in 2012

It is easy to use small quotes to paint a person in an unfavorable light. I would like to see the whole argument behind each statement.

AS far as the NAACP is concerned they had better know fear if I ever got to the presidency. Once I can find proof of their treason against the constitution in a way I could use as evidence against them I would send them packing to Leavenworth!

Rush has a big mouth and that is a given. it is how he makes money. The big situation is that the GOP and the DNC have failed us utterly and BOTH operate in sympathy to one another to keep us all off balance fighting with each other.

The fact ultimately is that if you are too left or right wing you are not thinking in the interests of the greater whole which is clearly what is going on. All the political mud slinging is pissing me off more and more at our government leaders. Neither side has the answer and neither side has done squat to address the issue past party lines.

Thankfully Rush does oppose Hillary and the DNC because if no one did we can throw our constitution in the trash! No wonder Bill busted his nut on Monica Lewinsky! He wasn't getting squat from Hillary and then again I would loose all interrest in sex seeing Hilary in my bed naked!noway ill ill ill

Do try to give Rush his props, I have a friend who listens to him religiously and I have heard some of his rhetoric. Some of it is self rightous BUT Rush has said a few times that I have personally heard that BOTH parties need to get together to address the national crisis we are facing. Oddly Republicans have offered to try to work things out with the DNC BUT the DNC has been staunch and defensive of all their uncontrolled spending.

How about less *****ing about Rush and more focus on the issues because you are forgetting Obama's past inflammatory remarks. You act like Jessie Jackson's 'Hymietown' remark was trivial.

What could or can you do to fix the mess we are in? Rip Rush Constantly? I seriously would love and I mean LOVE to see you and Rush sitting at the Big table on TV having it out. I'm sure it would make a tremendous pay per view event!

If I can arrange it would you dare to face him? Having been taught Public Speaking my advise to you if I could make this happen is that you had better be ready to not have your own foot put in your mouth by him in Public. He has speaking savvy I would be careful to confront directly without having my facts in front of me and made damn sure the sources are reliable!

You got heart and it shows but damn if I don't feel like your energies are misplaced sometimes!

Just my not so humble opinion!waving

I am not trying to inflict hate on you or look down on you, it just seems to me like you are over focused and over fixated on a small part of the problems we as a nation are facing!

Nicely said Andy.. It the real issue is people being fair. I dont mind people have different views as me.. but people start spouting B.S. then all bets are off. The creater of this post could not even articulate his own points. He had to copy and article someone else wrote...

Rush says what he says for a reason.. it is calculated.. He may say things he dont even believe but it gets people talking and causes a response. I do this on many occasions, I will just start saying things to get a reaction. It is very humorous in fact.

As the conservative writer David Frum said recently, "If you're a talk radio host and you have five million who listen and there are 50 million who hate you, you make a nice living. If you're a Republican party, you're marginalized."
