Hillsboro woman wins $5 million jackpot at Florence casino

FLORENCE, Ore. – A Hillsboro woman won more than $5 million at the Three Rivers Casino & Hotel in Florence, which also broke a record at the casino.

The woman, who did not want her name released, counted her winnings at exactly $5,284,316.55 in the progressive slot jackpot. This was just the third “Mega” Jackpot someone has won at the casino since it opened in 2004.


She was playing the Penny Wheel of Fortune machine on Friday night and thought she had just won $60.00, or possibly $600 when three symbols lined up on the first pay line. Then, the machine indicated she should call an attendant and wow – what a surprise. The attendant gave her the true tally and the woman said she was shocked.


Progressive slot machines are a network of machines linked electronically throughout the West Coast which accumulate a percentage of the play on all the machines allowing for mega payoffs that would not be possible on just one machine.


No word on how the Hillsboro woman plans to spend her winnings.


Casino officials said they have only had 10 jackpots in the state that cashed in over $1 million and this jackpot was the second largest ever.
