I saw a thread just before and it got me to thinking. There are some songs that may be great, but I can't listen to them any more. I'm 50 years old and have heard these songs 23 skazillion times. Enough!

Do you have any? I'll start.

Freebird

There ya go... Let it out. Bob Dylan is in my all time top 5 and if I never heard Like A Rolling Stone Again it would be just fine.

Been good  Staying out of trouble.

Hmmmm, let me think. There are so many. AOR stations play the same songs over and over and over.

The Who are another top five band for me. However, it has been 38 years since Won't Get Fooled Again was released, and it is still played several times a day on local radio stations...

"Paradise By The Frickin' Dashboard Light" and "American Frickin' Pie"

Both great songs, don't get me wrong, but they got old after hearing them for the 874,429,648th time.

The local station I listen to has seemingly become obsessed with playing Van Halen music and I hate anything they ever came out with.. so when a VH song comes on I just switch the station long enough for it to be over when I go back...

Exactly!

This is going to be sacrilege to some but... AC/DC's old song. I say song because they all sound so similar.

Let's call it You Shook Me With Your Dirty Deeds On The Highway To Hell.

"Bohemian Rhapsody"

A magnum opus, without a doubt....but come on already! Thirty-four years of hearing it 97,000 times per year is a little much.

How about We Will Rock You/We Are The Champions.

Not only is it played daily on the radio, it's also played at every effing sporting event in the known universe!

If I never hear "Hotel California" again, it would still be too soon.

I think, personally, the thing that pisses me off the most is, with all the great songs by any of these groups, WHY do they need to overplay the sh!t out of one single song?? As a result, this comes to be practically the only song anybody knows about any of these groups. Sometimes it IS the only song they know about them. I find that to be a HUGE injustice to these bands.

You are right.. reason why so many bands become one hit wonders.. like Midnight Dixie Runners with Come on Eileen.. only song you ever heard of theirs and poof they are gone.. of course not a great band but I still love the song!

I totally agree. Thing is, just because Stairway To Heaven might be on many listeners list of greatest songs ever doesn't mean they want to hear it any more. Why not play lesser known gems or one off versions?

Why play the same studio tracks over and over ad infinitum?

I expect that my son is sick of Life is Beautiful by Sixx AM since I play it all the time.. but I just love that song!

For instance, KISS. They've released close to 30 albums, and have had 45 singles released. They've had 37 official videos....so WHY are we subjected to only "Rock And Roll All Nite" and "Beth" constantly?

/rant (for now)
