Topic: Appear drunk? That's a crime! | |

Humm it appears the morals police and it's attendant idiots are still making a strong showing in the state of Utah.
A proposed bill there would make it a crime to appear drunk! Yes...appear drunk... So, I hope NASCAR baseball football fans will beware, Shriner's conventions..no question they are potentially in trouble in Utah, teenagers and anyone who occasionally grins without prompting...better have bail money... or who imbibes anything more than one alcoholic drink will be careful in Utah. Still...under this legislation one could be completely sober and still be subject to arrest. Smile stupidly, trip and fall, dance inappropriately or slur your speech? Drunks do those things! Seems like grounds for arrest to me! But gosh folks...why object? After all...the nanny state is just trying to protect you right? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A Utah Senate committee has approved a bill that would hide the preparation of alcoholic drinks behind 10-foot-high walls in restaurants and make it illegal to appear drunk. Sen. John Valentine, R-Orem, says Senate Bill 187 is intended to eliminate anything resembling a bar in restaurants. His measure also would redefine what it means to be intoxicated in Utah, gutting a Utah Supreme Court ruling that said simply being a drunk is not a crime. Under Valentine's bill, it would be illegal for anyone to look like they are drunk. The bill passed unanimously on Friday. It will now be debated on the Senate floor. http://www.kutv.com/content/news/local/story/Senate-Panel-Approves-Hiding-Restaurant-Bartenders/c_MbGVuqMk-_XhBmnOkYsg.cspx |

it shouldn't be illegal to APPEAR to be drunk. people that appear to be should be evaluated so that they aren't a harm to themselves or others (drunk driving) but if someone is just acting silly or having one of those days.....that's not a crime
