Topic: Why is it? | |

Why is it that when you ask a question that people have no answer for they claim that you're 'bashing' their religion?
Shouldn't they be required to either give an answer or acknowledge that it can't be explained? |

well seeing as how I don't have a religion, at least not in any traditional sense... I don't know the answer
but why seek answers when you have already concluded that the subject is ludicrous? |

Yes on the latter, I will acknowledge, alot of things can't be explained. |

Abra, it's because in some religions when you question the "writings of God, you are questioning God himself" and that won't be tolerated.
People get defensive when you call attention to things that can't be explained about their God. You should expect people to get upset when you start to rattle their faith. |

It's sorta like telling a parent her child is ugly, heaven help ya. Or telling a color blind person something is purple when they see grey, or is that tan? The Bible tells in it that God says it can't be explained, so why worry? That's the way I look at it. That would be religious faith. Kat |

Why is it that when you ask a question that people have no answer for they claim that you're 'bashing' their religion? Shouldn't they be required to either give an answer or acknowledge that it can't be explained? I can name three reasons why, fear of not having the answer and saying frankly they do not know, ignorance because they know they are stuck in a part of the philosophy behind their thinking that it forces them to reevaluate their faith and when fear kicks in they get defensive, and lastly, the like others in their faith practice demand conformity in all aspects of their lives including all others around them. The last one is Sheep Syndrome in the classic sense. They have a very limited sense of personal individuality and want to fit in with their ideals so badly they impose them passively on others. The Catholic church teaches their faith blind obedience where Lutherans are taught to ask questions. The only drawback to Lutheranism is there is still idolatry among them but that is another argument for another thread. With that said the whole thing is that sometimes the indoctrination works so well that any questioning of their faith in any way becomes an act of aggression and then they become defensive. BUT, Tee Hee! DEVILS ADVOCATE SOMETIMES questions are indeed asked in an attacking manner. There is a difference between intellectual curiosity than a question like "How can you believe that Mary is so Sacred she deserves to be worshiped? That is ignorant isn't it" That is an example of a poorly worded question. Some people have very valid questions. Others are just faith driven selfless sheep of another faith or fear attacking through verbal assault in carefully worded machinations of spite. Saying that this question does have many facets and a double edge! I thought this just looked cool. Had to share it.... Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm. |

Anybody who is religious, regardless of what they believe in, is going to get a little bit peeved when someone (not necessarily questions) but says there doctrines or what have you is based on ignorant claims. If I remember right, aren't you jill a wiccan or something? If you are (since I am a christian) I would never explain (nor could I) why your practices are false. I just am what I am, and I don't really worry about it. I would, for the sake of argument (if I was a good arguer) ask some questions, about the wiccan religion, but I would never bash it. By the way, I apologize if I got that all wrong on what you believe in. I may be thinking of someone else. |

I never claim to be the right way, or the only way. I only claim what works for me. I was a miserable Christian. Loving God shouldn't be so difficult.

Adam, how is it that you claim you would never bash someone else's religion but you have no problem calling someone else's religion "false"??
I know you did not intend to offend me. And you didn't. I know you are just following your Christian ways, and that is to call my way "false" but just so you know... that is also a way of bashing someone else's religion. I'm not flat out calling christianity "false". It just didn't work for me. It makes not one single tiny bit of sense to me. However, it works for some people. And if they don't cause harm to others, then let them praise Jesus all day long. If that's what brings them comfort at night, then more power to them. But, I should be given the same respect tho. |

I do at least know plenty about Christianity. I lived it for many years. Actually even several denominations. Maybe you should be more open minded to learn things from other cultures, religions, before you go around calling them false. In the end, all of them could be false. Maybe we're really just making things far more complicated than it really is

But, I should be given the same respect tho. however, if you call other religions than yours false, then that is claiming only yours is correct. That is not giving anyone else respect for their own religions that can be just as whole heartedly involved in their religion as you are in yours. I think it's unfair to call others false. no matter what religion you are. I can only tell you what didn't work for me. I can't tell you what is right or wrong for you. But I would be happy to answer any questions you may have. I'm not a bad person you know. I'm just different than you. different shouldn't equal wrong. |
