I am not sure people worry about being nuked the way they once did. When I was a kid we had duck and cover drills in elementary school.
Never mind that the reality was that if the city were a ground zero target ducking and covering wouldn't save your ass. It made people feel better I suppose to hope if Cuba nuked us we could possibly save ourselves. This is pretty interesting. I found this on neatorama.com where the link to the blog is found. "CarlosLabs, a design firm based in Sydney, created a Google Maps mashup of cities around the world and what they would look like if hit by various nuclear devices. You can choose your city and then a weapon (Fat Man, Little Boy, Tsar Bomba, Asteroid) and press "Nuke it!" and then see the extent of thermal damage." Nuclear Urbanism A Google Maps mash-up by Sydney-based design firm CarlosLabs has us looking at what nuclear explosions would do to cities all over the world. http://bldgblog.blogspot.com/2008/12/nuclear-urbanism.html I haven't put in information for my town yet. I am fairly sure Vermontville, MI isn't a high value nuke target but I am going to put in info for some of the larger cities surrounding my home. |
