Yes...I know I am callus and rotten for posting this. I shouldn't...but I must...gonna zone now... By Laura Vesco Reporter Published: February 6, 2009 —-Update—- Changes are on the way on how one county checks criminal databases. Earlier this week, we told you about Leroy Jenkins who faced a murder charge in the beating death of a woman. When Jenkins checked with Onslow County officials to see if there were any warrants for his arrest, they didn’t have any. Jacksonville police had entered Jenkin’s information into the National Crime Information Center. So from now on, the Onslow County Sheriff’s Office says it will check every law enforcement database to see if there is a warrant out for any individual before turning them away. —-Original Story—- An aggravated assault charge turned to first degree murder but the suspect still was no where to be found. On January 31 a woman was badly beaten when police arrived on the scene the suspect had left. Jacksonville police say days later Angerina Bradley died from her injuries. Nine on Your Sides Laura Vesco explains how the search for an accused murderer took a lot of twists and turns. Five days after brutally beating a woman, Jacksonville police still had not been able to locate Leroy Jenkins. Police Chief Mike Yaniero says they searched for him starting on the night of the assault, JPD didn’t however ask the public for help in locating him. Chief Mike Yaniero says, “Nobody requested a picture” On Wednesday we received this mug shot of Leroy Jenkins and Jacksonville police also asked the sheriffs department for help in locating him. Ironically on Wednesday Jenkins walked into the sheriffs department trying to turn himself in. After checking the sheriff’s department records and the courthouse, deputies couldn’t find a warrant out for his arrest. Jenkins left but later that night a jailer saw his mug shot on TV. Carl Dail says, “I went home and watched TV and saw they were looking for him. So I thought I better call them and let them know he did come up.“ Then Sheriff Brown received a tip leading to Jenkins location. So finally Leroy Jenkins, a man with a long criminal history was arrested Wednesday evening after a difficult process of trying to locate him. |
