If my significant other was so depressed about losing his job and being broke that he offed himself, I think my relationship would suffer a bit.

It sure can. Had a long time relationship and in a nut shell she was a spender and I was a saver. Even though we kept seperate accts. When she ran out she came to me for support. Can only take so much of that. Just recently heard she had to declare bankrupcy. And on a great income as an R.N. A real shame.
