I love dating sites that are free and I have had great luck with them. So why pay sites like Match.com?

You do realize you're asking people who are on a free site, right?

The same reason people pay to see movies like The Simpson movie. You can watch The Simpsons for free.

As one possible reason: It's real easy to create a fake profile, or have multiple profiles that are up to no good, on the unpaid sites.

I doubt there'll be as many scammers, fakers, etc. on a site for which they have to pay a monthly fee.

That's probably true. More people are probably serious about meeting and dating since they're paying for the site as well.

Actually there are more scammers, especially Nigerian scammers, on the pay sites. I have had a lot of them contact me. They don't mind paying. They get a lot of money ripping off lonely men and women.

Hey Michigan, welcome and have fun.

We are a better class of daters here, saving our money for a good time with that someone special.

I don't know. I don't go to dating sites, paid or not.

Not true. I had a pay account once, and terminated early. On another pay site, I barely had my profile filled in about half way and scammers galore... I blanked out the account and moved on. The latter site should have been called nigerian singles.

I will say this -- the only site where I received a lot of interest from people who were actually looking for a relationship, was a pay site I tried for a few months in early 2006. I was contacted by 174 of their members in a 3-month period, most of them locals (within 25 miles, many within a mile or two).

Unfortunately, none were suitable (it was clear from their e-mails that most hadn't read my profile -- or couldn't read it) -- but I have never received anything even remotely approaching that level of interest on a free site; let alone I've never even been able to GET a local to talk to me on a free site!
