What you always wanted to be?
-When I was 10 I wanted to be a Veterinarian. It didn't work out, because my family moved. I went to school to got an associate degree in science, and I have it, wanted to go further but I couldn't afford it. Lately I was in a completely different field than my degree, and the only reason is because I couldn't find a job and I don't have more money for school. but now, I want to be a teacher. History teacher, but again, I got no funding and I couldn't afford it anyway, even if I would be working now. |

I originally had my heart set on being a studio composer, kinda like John Williams. However, that never materialized because of several disappointment-causing events (music programs being cut from my high school/college, no money to get private lessons, etc.) which resulted in my needing to change my direction.
So I decided to then become what I am now, which is a special effects pyrotechnician for television and film, which I did mostly out of necessity due to various personal problems facing various members of my family who are also in the field. While I had some good years in the business, the fact remains that the film business here in L.A. is on its last legs, mostly due to such catastrophes as Bill Clinton's signing of NAFTA, which sent all of my work to Canada and beyond (in fact, I've lost shows directly because of the legislation) and the state government's unwillingness to keep industry within its borders. As a result, I'm about at the point where I'm ready to move onto something else- the environment sucks, and the pay has been decimated to a horrific extent. |

I wanted to be a teacher. I let people talk me out of it over the years... "teachers never get appreciated... teachers don't get paid enough..." I believed all that and let my dream die.
Now that I'm back in school, I'm aiming for counseling... I have people tell me all the time I should be a teacher or a counselor... so it works for me. |
