Ummmmm..... I think denial is at play here. I would say the two people weren't really involved in a relationship to begin with. Maybe they once were, but somewhere it ended and each party failed to end it.

I've been in a relationship where she cheated, I took her back and she swore it would never happen again. But , I never got over it, the trust was gone and without trust, there can be no true love.
