I don't hate it Robin. I just don't get it. It does not brighten everyone's day who wishes to participate either. Remember the reject kids in school who sat around wishing they'd get a Valentine while the kid next to him just opened his 23rd Valentine? Yes, I remember, and that's sad, but...that's life, hon. Kids can be unknowingly cruel. Cruelty is not limited to kids knowingly or unknowingly. 
I'm sure there is more than one lurker out here who wishes to join in this outpouring of friendship and affection for their fellow minglers, but sadly is too shy or does not know how. But as you say, that's life... But see, I see this day as an opporunity to do just that. It's as easy as sending an e-mail, and simply saying Happy Valentine's Day. If they don't reply, their loss. Any of my Mutual Matches that open my mail to them and don't reply, their off my list and forgotten about. If ya can't take the time to reply to a simple Valentine wish, then I can't be bothered either. So...just do it, Mitch, just try that's all I'm askin. 
And shed my curmudgeonly geezer persona? Gotta give that some thought.

I have no bitterness today.
I ran into Cupid yesterday... I made good on my purchase of a hunting license with the Cherub Endorsement (29.50 at your local Department of Fish and Game) and needless to say two shots of number four from my duck gub and some plucking and guess what I am having for dinner... 
Now if I can just find a date today to share with....

I have no bitterness today. I ran into Cupid yesterday... I made good on my purchase of a hunting license with the Cherub Endorsement (29.50 at your local Department of Fish and Game) and needless to say two shots of number four from my duck gub and some plucking and guess what I am having for dinner...
Now if I can just find a date today to share with....
What time's dinner? I'll bring the wine!

Actually schools don't allow voluntary choices of recipients for VDay cards anymore. You have to give to the entire class or none at all. GREAT IDEA!

And I totally agree with Robin. That's what I've been saying this whole time.
A 'LOVE day' does not have to be just about Significant others but about anyone we love. Or who loves us. My kids just had a rose bush in a beautiful planter box delivered here. They are soooooooo sweet. One of them was like "open it, open it!"

Barbie's 50th birthday....
The dawning of the Age of Aquarius.... Valentine's day..... blah blah blah..... I dislike the whole pink fluffy heart, oooey goooey claptrap that gets thrown around.... someone mow my lawns, clean my gutters, and do it cause it needs doing, not because you want something.... and I would find that a romantic gesture.... the rest? Pass. |

Have to admit, it's not my favorite holidays either, but like everything, it is what you make it. It's not all about sweethearts. The Cupid Card Exchange brightened the hearts of all who participated. This morning I sent out Valentine wishes to some of my Mutual Matches and some folks on here I don't get to talk to much. I got some really sweet replies back. I sent out e-mails to my e-mail friends, called my sister to wish them Happy Valentine's Day. Sent cards to my neighbors and friends. I wish to heaven my folks were still around so I could smother them in hugs and kisses. Yeah, it's a 'Hallmark Holiday'...so what??!! And yeah, we should let our loved ones know we love them throughout the year, but ya know, we don't, we're busy, life gets in the way. Today is an opportunity to spark up a conversation with someone you've been admiring from afar.
Today is an opportunity to let your friends and family know how much they mean to you.
Today is an opportunity to let go of your resentments and bitterness and start again.

I do like the romantic stuff, but sometimes lightening the burden a bit for me would be the sweetest thing someone could do for me.
