Once the guy showed me my "rear differential fluid" and said it should be red, and really needed changed.

Another time, after an alignment, they said my car still pulled because of the "road". I asked for my printout, they looked SO guilty.

Actually your differential uses 80 or 90 weight gear lube, and it ain't red. Your transmission/transaxle fluid should be red, just so you know. I sure hate it when people get taken advantage of.

I totally agree that when it comes to cars, alot of mechanics don't think woman know anything, and there are several out there who will take advantage.I am lucky enough to have my father be my mechanic, but he also has a great reputation of being a fair and honest businessman in our town.So even if he wasn't related to me I would go to him anyway!

Wat the heck does "getting reamed" mean anyway?!

(was just looking thru my old posts, some great threads there that i wish hadnt died!!)

when something gets reamed out it's usually a hole that is being forcefully made bigger.
in slang terms it refers to taking it in the backside from someone/something. usually it affects your pocket book and that pain radiates throughout your buttocks.

. . .

Technical and HOT at the same time. devil

Saturday. 2- 3 foot fuel lines installed and 2 new front shocks installed and I bought the parts and brought them in- $283 dollars. They had a 105 dollar an hour labor rate. And then the service technician broke my drivers window. I went to my shop to replace it because I didn't want goober or gomer to touch it. After all was said and done it was a 400 dollar saturday.

....by the auto mechanic. ....Especially dealership auto mechanics when you have basically a "new" car.

Tell us your stories of how you got reamed.

So I don't feel so bad. tears ohwell
I hear you on that, car folks are crooks. Took one of my new cars in , less than 20 thousand miles and they wanted over a grand for basic maintenance as called for in the owners manual. Car sales men and the dealer shops are the pits, and now they want a bailout, screw 'em, the cars are overpriced and the service departments charge way to much and it seems they like to keep you coming back. When you trade it in, they use it against you when they quote a trade in, well you didn't spend a fortune with us on Preventive Maintenance so we can't give you near what you were expecting for your car. If you want a car at NADA price to bad, we don't go by that it's not accurate but when they give you a price its it usually below the NADA,

Oh, did I mention, I think car dealers, salesman and service department suck.

105 an hour labor, that is ridiculous, and we have to bail their asses out.

Yeah, the dealerships will ream you every time, even if you do actually manage walk out with only the parts and repair you needed. They charge 250% of the actual cost of anything.

If you need stuff done that is not covered under warranty, take it to a 'mechanic', not a 'dealer'. There's a reason they're called 'dealers'.
