I would hope to have enough faith in my children not too
However I also don't want my children to have cell phones until absolutely necessary
And if a child wants to find trouble, they will
Besides I'm not buying them a car either, they want a car they can work and pay for it on their own..but then its theirs...

It depends on the child. My daughter yes I disagree. I had a very open and honest relatioship with her. She understood that by doing so "Meant" she would have more freedoms. Never had a problem with her, she got to do way more than most parents allowed their kids. I wouldnt change anything!

Now ME as a kid...HE!! yes my parents should have and would have!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If, as you stated, it is your kid's car......

Then, you have no right to put anything in it without their approval. "Criminal Trespassing"...

If, it is your car that the kid has access to....Well then do what ever makes you feel good. It seems you would be setting up your child to lie to you.....under the guise of "safety or concern"....Most "Adult" relationships involve some sort of Trust....ohwell ohwell ohwell ohwell ohwell

If they would have had it available when my children were driving I would have used it then so absolutely yes in today's world.

I would not do it in secret though. I would explain it is for their saftey and if they are good on their word they have nothing to worry about. Even if it were their car I would require it if not OnStar.

I am really surprized parents don't require it on school buses.

From what I know of the maturity of teenagers I would not let them ride with a teen driver or be a solo teen driver until they have at least logged 1000 hours driving time with a parent or driving teacher and were at least 17.

One thing I would make clear is if they are not rested or under the influence for any reason if they need me to come get them I will no questions asked.

I would also make it clear that eating or useing a cell driveing the car would revoke the priviledge of driving.
