I went to a party,
And remembered what you said.
You told me not to drink, Mom,
so I had a sprite instead.

I felt proud of myself,
The way you said I would,
that I didn't drink and drive,
though some friends said I should.

I made a healthy choice,
And your advice to me was right.
The party finally ended,
and the kids drove out of sight.

I got into my car,
Sure to get home in one piece.
I never knew what was coming, Mom,
something I expected least.

Now I'm lying on the pavement,
And I hear the policeman say,
the kid that caused this wreck was drunk,
Mom, his voice seems far away.

My own blood's all around me,
As I try hard not to cry.
I can hear the paramedic say,
this girl is going to die.

I'm sure the guy had no idea,
While he was flying high.
Because he chose to drink and drive,
now I would have to die.

So why do people do it, Mom
Knowing that it ruins lives?
And now the pain is cutting me,
like a hundred stabbing knives.

Tell sister not to be afraid, Mom
Tell daddy to be brave.
And when I go to heaven,
put ' Mommy's Girl' on my grave.

Someone should have taught him,
That it's wrong to drink and drive.
Maybe if his parents had,
I'd still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter,
Mom I'm getting really scared
These are my final moments,
and I'm so unprepared.

I wish that you could hold me Mom,
As I lie here and die.
I wish that I could say, 'I love you, Mom!'
So I love you and good-bye.

I can relate. My daughter was in an accident from a drunk driver. She had to have a blood transfusion but luckily she survived. She was only 17. Thanks for posting. Hopefully it will help people remember how dangerous the roads are for the young ones.

well i did not write this piece. my friend sent it to me.

luckily, my daughter lived past age 17....

however, right near me, several teenagers were killed by a drunkin driver....it was very tragic, and ruined his life, and killed theirs.

I know you didn't. I read it once when I was a teenager. Just glad it is still around. It is a terrible reality and I think it is great that this is still being passed around.

I unfortuantely lost my cousin when he was at the tender age of 16 because he chose to get in a vehicle with someone who had drank heavily before gettin behind the wheel.

I told my 3 older children as teens, never get in a vehicle with someone who has even had one drink. Call me I will pick you up no matter where you are. I plan to do the same thing with my youngest 2 when they reach their teens.

The drunk driver that took my cousin's life also took his wife's life in the same auto accident. He was never charged with anything and walks free to this day. He walked away from the accident without a scratch on him while 2 passengers lost their lives and another had to hospitalized. grumble  grumble

well what can i tell u.
u all have your stories to tell.

in my case, i drove once while at the limit...3 glasses of wine on empty stomach, but i got pulled over, had to go get my speedometer checked, and go to court, and tell the judge why i did this...

u c i had a blackout, and could not remember getting home. but i remember getting the ticket, and that was quite a few years ago.

just imagine if i had of hit someone. i would be dead 2. or sorry 4 the rest of my life.
