I'm white and would never have thought to ask that question or the others. But after thinking about it for a while, I think the Original poster must be very young to have asked such a question.
White young people see blacks in all areas of life today, so they might assume that blacks are getting something they are not. They don't know to what lengths blacks had to go to get where they are today or he would never have thought to ask the question either. I am assuming of course, he might have another take on it. I read this article today: Who Needs Black History Month? http://www.wiretapmag.org/race/31727/ It still amazes me that we still have to deal with the race issue today. |

why are only 49 states represented in Miss Black America??? Nobody want to be Miss Idaho.. ANother... How about a miss white america? a miss latina america? so on? Since the first day of Miss America, there have been very few black women participating so it seems like it's already Miss White America. I'm not sure where you're going with this. At the Miss Universe level, there are women of many colors from all over the world. |

Isnt there a... White History Month? White College Fund? White Entertainment Channel? An actual Federal holiday observance for Abraham Lincoln? (Such as a MLK JR day?) Why isn't there a white history month? Because it's white history month 12 months a year. White College Fund? Ask the white people. Black people did it for themselves. White Entertainment Channel? All the channels are geared to white people already. So I don't understand that question. I'd like to change something that I said. It's not all of the channels. It's most of the channels. |

Indeed...there is a holiday.
Lincoln's Birthday is a legal holiday in some U.S. states including Illinois, Connecticut, California, Missouri, New York, New Jersey and Indiana. It is observed on the anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's birth on February 12, 1809 [1]. The earliest known observance of Lincoln's birthday occurred in Buffalo, New York, in 1874. Julius Francis (d. 1881), a Buffalo druggist, made it his life's mission to honor the slain president. He repeatedly petitioned Congress to establish Lincoln's birthday as a legal holiday.[2] Francis' extensive collection of Lincoln memorabilia is housed in the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society,[3] which has been hosting Lincoln Birthday observances for over a century. The day is marked by traditional wreath-laying ceremonies at Abraham Lincoln Birthplace National Historic Site in Hodgenville, Kentucky, and at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, DC. The latter has been the site of a ceremony ever since the Memorial was dedicated. Since that event in 1922, observances continue to be organized by the Lincoln Birthday National Commemorative Committee and by the Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States. A wreath is laid on behalf of the President of the United States, a custom also carried out at the gravesites of all US presidents on their birthdays. Lincoln's tomb is in Springfield, Illinois. Many states that had formerly observed Lincoln's birthday have created a joint holiday to honor both Lincoln and George Washington, sometimes calling it "Presidents Day". It coincides with the Federal holiday officially designated "Washington's Birthday", observed on the third Monday of February. WOW two white guys for the price of one! Info courtsey wiki.com |

Isnt there a... White History Month? White College Fund? White Entertainment Channel? An actual Federal holiday observance for Abraham Lincoln? (Such as a MLK JR day?) 1) Everyday is White History Day - many Western textbooks focus on a White-centric history. 2) White people are the uneducated majority, not the uneducated minority. Minorities often face racism and adversity in the world, as well as a general disadvantage due to poorer upbringings, especially the children of immigrants. 3) I don't really watch TV, so you got me. However, you'd probably find that most Western entertainment targets a predominantly White audience. Ethnic protagonists are certainly less - no Black James Bond, no Hispanic House, no Arab Dorian, no Asian Jack Bauer. If there are ethnic people, they tend to be in supporting roles. Thus, one might go as far to say that most channels are "White Entertainment Channels." --->>> FOX NEWS certainly is aimed at White people, simply because the Republican base is overwhelmingly White. 4) Thanksgiving Day, at least on the final Thursday of November as we celebrate it today, was begun by Lincoln. If you like, you can think of that as Lincoln Day. ;-) Why isn't there a white history month? Because it's white history month 12 months a year. White College Fund? Ask the white people. Black people did it for themselves. White Entertainment Channel? All the channels are geared to white people already. So I don't understand that question. Maybe I should have read her post first? lol Anyhow, I suppose my post helped to flesh things out a bit, don't you? ^_^ P.S. I had to look up the names of themain characters of the TV programs I referenced! haha hoho heehee... |

boo2u posted the article:
http://www.wiretapmag.org/race/31727/ I find it telling that Morgan Freeman, and reportedly, some "black intellectuals," as well as others, make these sorts of statements. It just says to me that these Black people don't read many history books. That or they don't know too much about their own history or about their current situation. After all, Black people are still much lower economically than Whites. ...that said, I do feel like I can come up with some reasons why there are Blacks who make this sort of statement. However, I would think they'd retract the statement in good time unless pride gets in the way. What's more, I think we should never get rid of this Black History Month. Even when the socioeconomic situation of black people is on-par with Whites, I feel a culture should always have a period when it remembers the injustices it has committed, especially an injustice as grievous as slavery! On that note, I think we should have a Native American History Month, don't you? Millions upon millions of Natives were maltreated and killed as the result of European and American expansion. The Trail of Tears seems like rosy good times when compared to the rest of Native American maltreatment at the hands of Whites. T_T |

T_T There should be a Native American month, i've always wondered why there hasn't been one. I'm just tired of being blamed for somthing that happened 100 years ago, before i was born, before i had any impact on the world. Everyone diserves respect, and that means I do too, a white male who is just trying to keep his head above water. |

Maybe some people still blame the White guys around America, but I think most of the people acknowledge that it was people's ancestors who did that ****. |
