I'd love to go to Alaska but it's definitely not in my budget this year True, and you know, the more I think about it, I'm thinking it might not be a bad idea, road trip around the UP, show the fam some of my favorite places. Might even inflict some more psychological damage on myself and visit my family Hmm, maybe I should go to yours then |

If you like hot weather and your on a budget with teens I have three suggestions.
Stone Mountain Park, Atlanta, Georgia. Your kids study the Cival War war and so you get some good info on that. Lazer shows on the side of the mountain are a lot of fun and the hike up the mountain is not terribly strenuous. You can ride the cable car down and a River boat. You have excellent Mass transit so renting a car is really not necessary from the airport to lodgeing or the park or downtown. Downtown is ok for a day trip but unless you are interested in over priced shopping and crummy food pass on Underground. Zoo is disappointing. If you are a coke fan it is a pretty good display. Were clothes downtown that can get wet and cool off in the Olympic fountains. The High Art museum is worth the money. Peachtree Westin is good for posh dining. Pitty Pats Porch for and extensive southern buffet at a reasonable price. CNN tour generally appeals to Teens. Braves baseball rocks. With 18 Universities it is definitely a place to check out future options for education. Georgia Tech is well known for up and coming future pro-baseball players. Country Mamma's is a huge dance bar. If you want to hob knob with some of Atlanta's eliete Eddies Hideaway is good for cocktails and danceing for the 30 Something crowd. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// St.Louis is another Excellent option. Downtown you have the Gateway Arch is well done exhibt of Northwest Expansion. THere is a floating River boat McDonalds and great River Front shopping. They do a world class Fourth of July celebration. Catfish and Crystal is a great dining experience. The Zoo, the fourth lagest in the world is a Crown Jewel not to be missed. Bush Gardens is fun also. Six Flags is always a sure bet with teens but a bit of a drive. I don't rate there mass transit as high you may need to rent a car. The Holiday Inn there used to be very nice with and indoor pool and kids eat free. Marriott used to have a top notch Dance floor/club on the top floor but that may have changed over the years compeateing with the casino's. ////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// Another Option is flying to Seatte and Seeing Pikes Market (frequently seen on the food channels). A fantastic Aquarium. Space Needle tram and reaturant are ok for lunch but a little touristy. The real treasure is rideing a yacht The Princess Margurite across to Victoria British Columbia. Lodgeing is excellent and very affordable with the difference in American and Canadian currency. The real advantage is the lay out of the main tourist area is around a large square. Horse drawn carts can give you the lay of the land and most places are and easy walk or on fun double decker English bussess. The Wax museum, glass bottom boats, minature world, and English pubs for family dining are great for teens. If you love gardens Bucharts Gardens, Beacon Hill park, and the Crystal Gardens are exquisite. The Observatory is great for star gazers and the Provencial Mueseum is excellent exhibits of Native American artifacts. I did not see the Craigdarrock castle or the Parliment in session but it is an excellent learning opportunity and SeaLand is a lot of fun. The real advantage is the weather in the summer is so much cooler and the lodgeing you can get a suite with a master sleeping area and a pull out sleep with kitchinette for what a dump would cost in the states. Take American Gold dollars for tips. They like American coins and the service is excellent. If you shop early you can get excellent bargains on airfare now. If you are going to be somewhere for five days have a box of secondary outfits UPS'd to your Hotel. And mail them USPS back rather than pay horrendous baggage fees and wear yourself out lugging things through airports. |

you're not to far from NY and there's always Niagra Falls and parts of Canada. I've never been but I've heard good things.
Minnesota has the mall of america. |
|
|
|
That's a good idea, I've been to Niagara Falls but wouldn't mind going again. And, there's always the Anchor Bar in Buffalo for a side trip

Hmmmmmmmm all inclusive will be hard for a family of 4 on that price.
How about Lake Tahoe and renting a cabin on the beach???? |
