Had Charter Internet VOIP ph. and it sucked. They had to come out to the house 3 times the first 3 months. That doesn't inclued the times it went out and I reset the modem. Or the times it went out and we just waited for it to come back on.
They didn't understand when I cancelled it. In 4 yrs never had the ph. guy out with regular ph service.

I have Vonage and never had any problems with it yet.

Service is good.........oh I did have one problem my router was bad and they sent one out overnight to me

You're lucky! My Vonage device went bad one day. It took hours on the phone before they would admit their device was bad and two weeks to get a replacement.

All VOIP is relatively new compared to land line phone. It is not much over ten years old as compared with the land based phone service. The telephone was invented in 1876. That is a lot of time for improvement. VOIP is good for those who make frequent long distance calls and can't afford a large phone bill, but are not concerned about occasional to frequent quality issues. The issues are being worked on and as more people begin to use they will in theory get fixed faster.

Was gonna switch to Vongae because it's cheaper than my regular phone bill.....but I am not willing to put up with crappy service, or being cut off fromt he internet when my house phone rings.

I think I will check out that Majic Jack instead, thanks for the info guys and gals.

Being fairly new does not excuse bad customer service.

My phone service has been ok most of the time. Other than that time I was without service at all for a couple weeks because it took them forever to send me the new device. The only time I really had bad phone service was when I called Australia one day. I wasn't using the internet at all while on the call, but we got disconnect several times and there was tons of static. Other than that, the quality of the phone service has not been bad. Just the customer service.

I did some research on the Magic Jack, and from what I have discovered, it is a great deal. When you buy it, you are purchasing your first years in the purchase price....that's pretty sweet. It does NOT cut you off from the internet while on the phone, which is a big plus in my book.
I has quite a few free features, call waiting, caller ID, unlimited local and LD. It can also be taken with you to a foriegn country and allows you to call the US for free. It can even be sent to someone overseas so they can call for free, and you can also call them for free.
Other than the fact that it has to plug into a USB 2.0 port and you need the internet for it to work, I haven't found many drawbacks, and the feedback is quite good.
I have invested in one, and it is an easy setup and easily transferred to whatever computer you want to plug it into.
