Topic: Parents of a child with ADHD | |

i had adhd growing up, my parents put me on ritalin or whatever and all it did was give me the over powering sense that i hate pills of any kind. At age 9 i did my own research and found something natural that is garuanteed to mellow out even the wildest kid... lets just say i love cheech and chong and i have long hair any guess what this wonder cure is?

Wonder cure? Weed makes you stupid but those that partake fail to see that about themselves. And 9, either you're full of bs or you have some serious issues.

in this day and age i dont see why any still checks for pot we should worry about the real drugs cuz face the facts even all the docs and nurses that i know smoke pot recreationally or for medicinal purposes. it is the cure-all this country needs. pills are the devil ive seen more peoples lives go to **** after they are perscribed pills then anyone on pot

i first tried it at 9 it wasnt an everyday thing then but i did notice how much better i could concentrate. And how dare you say every one that smokes is stupid, your just close minded and dont realize how many people do burn and the great things they have been thought up with a bit of open minded thinking

I have relatives and friends that are nurses. They don't get high. I also have personal friends that are doctors. Two are neurologists (they're married to each other) and one is a pediatric cardiologist (the head heart surgeon at the Childrens Hospital. Nope, they don't get high either. |

Sorry, none of my friends, relatives and acquaintances in the medical profession "burn" either. Quite frankly, if I suspected that any of my own personal doctors, nurses, etc were high or using, I'd report them. A, it's illegal, and b) it clouds your judgment and thinking, which is the last thing needed in medical personnel.
As for how I dare, I call it as I see it. If you don't like it, tough. I think all of the above is simply your way of justifying your own drug abuse. Justify it in your own mind however you choose, that's your perogative, you are allowed to use and abuse your body however you will. Doesn't mean the rest of us have to follow suit. I know how many people burn, and I am far from being close-minded. I used to myself, but I never felt the need to justify my use to anyone. Methinks someone protesteth too much. |

four professionals you know dont smoke so that means the rest of them dont? i know school teachers doctors nurses radiation techs printers musicians cooks family oriented people, they are not criminals for what they do. And no one forces it on anyone i dont see the issue if its a privately done thing

just like ADD/ADHD meds....pot and many other things can have different reactions in different people
|
|

by no means am i saying that everyone should smoke, like all things pot affects different people in different ways. And im not saying that i think doctors should be ripping bong hits before surgery. What i am saying is that if a doctor cant sleep at night because he is thinking of the guy that just died on his OR table earlier where is the harm in having a joint and going to sleep oppose to taking sleeping pills that are actually worse for you then pot?
And i dont think i protestith enough personally or the prohibition of a plant that our for-fathers approved of and harvested would be lifted by now |

my son is ADD and on ritalin. I have taught him since day one to not use it as a crutch. i won't tolerate him not doing something he should have in school because he forgot to take his meds. he has to learn to deal with it with or without meds. just like using pot to relax....he can find other ways to relax

I've worked in the medical field. I know OTs and PTs too. My brother works in a hospital in cardiology doing ultrasounds. He can't get high. If he were to get arrested or fail a urine test - he would lose his license. I would lose my license too. I'm not saying that they aren't out there. But..the many that I know don't. You say that they aren't criminals. Ummm....it's illegal. |

illegal only because the oil companies wanted them to be...when did it become illegal? it surely wasnt always illegal, if done the research. Even great men like ben franklin and thomas jefferson were down with the green. But again please understand that im not saying everyone should partake, and i dont think kids should. There should be a legal age though just like alcohol, drinking kills people everyday do you know any one who has died from pot?

but in this world of fanciful pills i dont see why marinol isnt used more, or even just a low amount of thc in a pill would help with add and adhd. im not saying get stoned out of your gord just have enough to help you think. and again not for everyone but i think some people should try it because it worked for me and im a responsible hard working self efficient person
im sorry if i offended anyone i was just trying to give a helpful suggestion towards something natural that worked for me... |

It's been illegal of my life. |

its illegal your absolutely right, but its a non violent crime...anyway i didnt mean to make this a debate on whether it should be legal i am just saying that thc has been known to help with add/adhd. and not just in my case but in many cases.
1938 by the way was the year they started criminalizing pot |

I'm not saying that pot doesn't have good, legitimate medical usefulness. I came across as horribly judgmental before, for which I apologize. I guess my whole problem is that this is a thread about helping parents help their kids deal with a very real problem with no easy solution. I don't feel that advocating illegal (whether we agree or not, it IS illegal) drug use is helpful to the problem. I could, however, be wrong about that.
Anyway, just back from the cardiologist, my son is fine, thankfully. He leaves on vacation tomorrow, we're gonna hold off starting the meds until he returns. I want to closely monitor his reaction. |

glad to hear all is well, best of luck with situation

I agree that pot can have some legit medicinal uses. My mom smoked it to help ease the nausea and loss of appetite while doin chemo. However, I do not advocate u self medicatin. U should be seein a psychiatirst on a regular basis. U should also be gettin some type of therapy to help u deal with whatever issues u maybe experiencin due to ur ADHD. I would be beside myself worryin about what to do if my son were self medicatin with pot. I deff would be puttin him into some type of drug rehab for a start.

Ever have someone tell you that all your child needs is a good swat on the butt when they act up? And that person has absolutely no idea what ADHD is all about nor has any firsthand experience with it. Don't know about the rest of you but makes me wanna pound the person on the top of their uneducated ignorant head and tell "mind ur business" I have a 10 year old who doesnt have adhd, but other issues he takes medication for. I also have educated myself, and am certified to deal with children with adhd as well as special needs. The worst thing you can do is come back at a child with these issues with violence, or the same way they come at you.. thats no way to discipline a child to act appropriately. Discipline meaning education, and not punishment is much of the soloution. We cannot believe we can control another, only try to guide, and lead. Patience is so important, and what helps me is relaxation techniques. Education for the parent via interent, or seeking a professional is important, and sometimes family therapy. I dismiss people who hit others, as uneducated, neandrathols. It just creates a child more problems. You cannot make yourself a trigger for your child, and expect positive results. |
