A friend said most of the inaguration speech had more to do with the news outlets interviewing local idiots and those attending the ceremony.

They were all turd-polishing the heck out of the whole affair, saying how "history was made" and saying how the whole shabang was "a turning point" for the country in some nebulous, unexplainable manner.

Thank goodness my musical instrument repair kept me away from the news, as I also hear that they all covered the inaguration to sickening extent.

Yeah, that's what I keep telling people- Obama's job has just STARTED, so there's no sense in celebrating at this point. If (by the END of his term in office) he manages to fix what Dubya and last four or five presidents have managed to screw up or ignore for the better part of thirty-plus years, then I'll be impressed. Other than that, It's all lip-service.

You have a good point and I agree.. It isn't one that messed things up, it's a few not to mention giving the banks too much leeway as well as others that have a stake in politics...

Of course. The political establishment has been VERY tied-in with big business and big banking for a VERY long time now, and their collusion has messed things up to a substantial extent.

Big business wants to increase profits, so they wanna off-shore all their industrial labor. Big banking wants to strike up deals with big business so that they can strike up some easy credit to build plants in foreign countries. And big government wants to keep getting their PAC-centric, under-the-table, "soft money" so they write up and pass poorly-worded "free-trade" legislation to allow big business/banking to get what it wants.

Of course, they forgot one very important thing about "free trade"- it's not the people in the foreign countries buying the bulk of their product, it's the people HERE, who bought their products (until they left them high and dry, that is). And when WE aren't buying their products, THEIR profit margins suffer greatly, as can be seen as of the last couple of months.

And THEN there are the white-collar scum who have to cook-up all sorts of scams designed to steal as money as they can (as was the case with the current mortgage meltdown fiasco, as well as the whole Bernard Madoff thingy), which only serve to exacerbate things ten-fold.

Knowing that Obama tapped a bunch of career politicians (including the wife of an ex-president who was at least partially responsible for what we're going through at present AND a Reagan-era architect of "free trade"), chances are that his term in office will be nothing more than "same ol' same ol'".

So yeah- repairing those musical instruments was probably a good thing.

LMAO... you're funny... i.e. the repairing..

I agree with all that you say.. Not sure what he'll do and willing to see.. The thing is, even if he wants to do the greatest things, they still have to get passed through the house and senate and if they don't want it, IT won't happen... How's that for comma splices.. LOL

True. However, the Democrats have a majority in both houses, so the chance of them "fighting" Obama on whatever they're supposed to fight him on are pretty much slim-to-none. There'll still be lethargy going on, but not the all-out insult-throwing that went on during Dubya's term, especially like those thrown out by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

If anything, there'll be a buttload of turd-polishing going on on everyone's parts, as no one wants to spoil the fact that the Dems are now in power.

That may be true but I think certain things they won't let pass b/c it won't line their pockets...

Oh... they'll find a way to line their pockets. Either that, or they'll make a "wedge issue" out of it to further make an us-versus-them division between the political parties.
