When WWII ended…the British encountered ANOTHER problem. HUNDREDS of thousands of Holocaust survivors were in camps throughout Europe. All of them were demanding to be allowed to resettle into…you guessed it…Palestine!
Leaders thruout the world, including President Harry Truman, pressured Britain to loosen up its immigration restrictions. In February 1947, the Brits went to the United Nations for their help in deciding what to do with Palestine. A few months later a special UN committee was setup to assess the situation. Then in August…the committee recommended the following. ---To separate Palestine into SEVERAL Jewish and Arab areas. ---to establish Jerusalem as an international area ---AND to economically tie in all THREE entities. On November 29, 1947…the proposed UN resolution was adopted. Well guess what happened…the Jews agreed to the PRINCIPLE of dividing the country. Did anyone ask the Palestinians if this UN idea was OK with them?
After all it was their land. Plus before the Mandate was forced on them Israel declared Independence and began massacring Arabs. |

You offer no solutions for peace in the ME.
Do you think that the continued unequivocal US support for Israel, and condemnation of the Palestinians for using the same tactics as Israel used to gain Statehood will bring about this peace? If you do than you are more naive than I would have given you credit for! |

israel did not want to have to go into Gaza in the
first place and they would not have if Hamas had extended the previous cease fire instead of launching rocket attacks. israel does not desire to leave troops in Gaza they will consolidate at favorable positions to be in a good position to attack any rocket launchers and prevent smuggling in coordination with others in the international community experiencing revulsion over Hamas' inhumane tactics. but the international community understands that israel must protect her citizens from terrorist attacks. if Hamas stops firing rockets and smuggling arms it will all be over and there will be a chance for a long stretch of peace for both israelis and gazans. |
