when they can't produce certified paperwork from a shrink saying they are normal... here is a thought... do you have any papers saying your normal? people who have been to a shrink may have.. but you don't so who is the real crazy out there? By walking by someone, you don't really know if they are mentally ill. That's why I make no secret of it. However, if they are severely mentally ill, it will affect every aspect of their lives. Once you get to know someone, either someone that is anti-social personality disorder, it becomes clear that they have a mental illness. Generally those that the anti-social personality disorder, if you know what to look for, can show their mental illness fairly quickly. My own diagnosis is bipolar II disorder, which isn't nearly as accute as Bipolar I, and not to be confused with being bisexual. It just means that if I were a 45 vinyl record, sometimes the record player plays at 33 and other times at 78. Like that TV show Monk, it is a gift and a curse. It's a gift for my career and often it's a state of hypomania that enhances creativity in my inventions, but a curse when I face an unsolvable problem, up to the point that I realize it is unsolvable. In terms of humor, you never know what I'm going to say, which makes at least 2 of us. To lump an illness like mine in with sociopaths, borderline, or antisocials would be akin to labeling someone with a common cold contagious and dangerous, but that's okay, because I probably wouldn't notice it or worry much if you did. It would just be an example of paranoia, leading me to wonder which of us was sicker. The other diagnosis you describe imply severe psychological and physiological disorders, which are a much more accute and dangerous prospect, especially in terms of relationships. What amazes me locally, is how so many women attract, fall right into, and return to, the arms of an abuser, who is most commonly of the bpd (borderline) variety. This is certainly not a nice guy whining response, just an observation. |

I have worked in mental health as a social work intern, as I know more about mental illness then most lay persons. However, those that are bipolar generally do not have the same symptoms as those that are anti-social personality disorder. Anti-social personality disorder is very different than bi-polar that is why they are classified differently in the DSM (Diagnosis and Statistic Manual). |

I understand those phrases/descriptions but what is the former Mrs. Bobbitt called? She might have been border-line personality disorder, which many females are diagonosed instead of anti-social personality disorder. But they run similar in characteristics. But border-line personality disorder, is more of the I either love you or hate you attitude. |

A guy can feel like a king when someone who's borderline loves you. When it flips though, wow. You could invent the cure for cancer and would still be seen as a walking piece of fecal matter. |

Border-line personality disorder is a trip. You are put on high, but as soon as they decide that they hate you... they hate you... some will also love you again and hate you again. One way to tell if someone has border-line personality disorder is that if they have cut off ties to friends or families in the past but stated that they had no problems with family until one point. |

Perhaps I should have qualified that their behavior tends to be classified as more amoral than mentally ill. People with APD tend to get caught more than psychopaths do. |

Psychopaths are Anti-social personality. The term psychopath is generally no longer used as a mental health diagnosis, its anti-social. |
