Actually I love older country, like Cash for example, back then it was almost more blues than country in some instances. I was just being a smartass to make a point. Funny thing is, I'll go out of my way to listen to styles I don't even like, top 40 stuff, "pop" country, Marilyn Manson etc. as I try to keep an open mind and soak in everything as it translates to my playing guitar or whatever later on down the road, it's sad how many people dismiss rap or some other style of music based off a few lousy songs played on the radio or some rumor or lyric that struck them the wrong way. Morrison talks about killing his dad in "The End" ("...father...I want to kill you...") and talks most of the way through the song but it's cool since it's not rap right? Since it's "The Doors" etc etc I guess that makes it okay, lyrically I could find a buhzillion more rock and country songs (and other genre's for that matter, even children's music can be taken out of context lol)) that are far more offensive than rap, but since people have a tendency to strike down and mock what they don't understand, rap takes the biggest hit. I still think it's all music though, even if I don't like some of it.

I think you've made excellent and well thought out points, in BOTH your commentaries. Glad to hear your perspective, and - I've had a hunch there must be some good rap - as art always finds a way!!! Thanx for the suggestions of where to look. My investigation will be all because you took the time to donate your thoughts. Cheers!
