Topic: Cold And Swim Suits | |

Today it was 12 degrees in St. Louis. It's now 24 with snow showers arriving tonight. I went to Target and was wearing my winter coat and gloves. As soon as I walk into the store, I see swim suits. I'm so confused. I'm freezing and I'm supposed to be thinking about swim suits. ain't life grand I saw shorts at Christmas time go figure??? I was seeing a lot of short sleeved shirts. I saw those, too. JCPenney is having fantastic sales. I couldn't find a darn thing for me to wear, but I got some things for my youngest child and the bargains were obscene. That's where my child and I were at tonight. I can't find anything either. But..I bought some for my child. |

Living in Florida, none of this seems odd to me. Of course, when I lived up North, I also found it frustrating. I'm sending you all a ray of sunshine to warm you during the winter cold. Thank you. |

Try a sporting goods store or farm supply store. Depending on where you live sporting goods stores cater to hunters and well...farmers/ranchers work outside year round.

I'm just outside of belgrade minnesota. Its a nice warm -21 below zero going to a record -30 below. -45 below wind chills. Every time I hear global warming I picture that hack al gore standing outside in a speedo and flip flops freezing to death and I get all warm inside. HEY!!! What was that that blew by?!! Was that a witches tit?!!! We get the cold here but nothing like that. |

Ever notice that the kids get out of school mid June and back to school stuff is out in July |

Honestly- box stores have become droned retailers selling surplus crap at discount. Most of their wholesale/ retail sales are their catalog and internet sales. Wanna buy winter gear? Better bet at that stuff at hardware stores, and retail farm and fleet stores.

Last year at this time I was trying to buy an electric blanket. One clerk at Kohls was kinda snippy about it too. Looking for a blanket in January, whats wrong with you???? WTF???
Bought a cheap one at Wal-Mart Second hand stores/Thrift Stores have coats all yr round. They'd put out the gardening stuff and flowers out if they could. But its 1 degree outside and snowing. LHB you got me beat on the weather. |

It doesn't work!! They grow too quickly - 5 inches this year. |

I'm just north of st cloud minnesota now. Its a hot balmy -24 below zero here. The winds have picked up. My guess is right around a scorching sweaty -40 below wind chill. To put that in perspective on this record breaking 3 evenings? Its so cold if you grab your car door handle with bare hands (and its metal) the moisture on your hands will freeze your skin and peel a layer of skin off. Its so cold that snow squeeks when you walk on it because being this cold there is no moisture in the air. Its 10% humidity in the air outside- dryer than the sahara desert. And you know its deadly cold when it gets below -20 to -47 when you see fog hanging in the air. That's not fog. That's frost. Arctic frost. Dangerous and deadly. Stranded outside you'd be a goner in a few hours. Frostbite sets in quickly when that death frost is in the air. And yes if you take a coffee cup full of scalding hot water and throw it up in the air- it goes poof and turns to snow in these subarctic temps instantly. Its pretty cool.

I'm not far from international falls minnesota that broke a record last night, is going for a record tonite, and most likely break a record tomorrow night slated to be the coldest night in the us this year. Then january thaw comes- above freezing for 4 or 5 days. But you can bet I'm dressed for success. Beane arctic liner pants, canyon guide arctic hoodie, carhartt over coat, herman arctic boots. Screw those 40 gram thinsulate gloves. I got 400 gram thinsulate gloves. Very hard to find. But wayyyyy warm.
