.....my elderly dad. He says, he is ready to die now. He will not eat , or drink much water. (He is old fashioned; and tells me just put him in a pine box--then, in the ground.) He does not want a fuss.tears

I am sorry you are faceing this with a parent. I have been and am a caregiver for family members. My Dad just turned 81 and the Princess is 87. I am trying my best to honor their wishes and keep them safe and comfortable as possible. Lots of very hard decisions go with this part of family life.

Only you can know whether to honor his wishes or ask for intervention. I would say that it is not uncommon for serious depression to strike when folks get to that age. It is a common health marker like cataracts, arthritis, or diabetes. It is very treatable. Working with a qualified geriatric specialist medication and other treatments like talking, socialization therapy, exercise, and treating chronic pain or infections even allergys can see stunning responses.

I will pray for you and your family however this goes.

The elderly are wonderful aren't they, so wise and knowing he is ready. Its the reat of us that have to deal with losing the ones we love. I am so sorry, and I am sure you are brave for him. Keep your chin up, he is with you always bcs you are a reflection of him and everything you love about him. sad2

Hugs ((((62)))). I know it must be hard for you. Your Dad has lived a long life. Unfortunatly, when they get this frame of mind (where they are ready to leave this life as they know it) there is not much you can do about it. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

My mom felt the same way. She explained to me that she had lived her life, had her fun, and was ready to check out. I guess I won't fully understand that feeling until it's my turn, but I guess when your quality of life deminishes, your just ready to go. All I know, is when the time comes, I sure don't want to lay around in bed all the time, watching TV, and have others always doing things for me. I think I understand...
