That's drawing a fine line! Perhaps it was meant to make us look at ourselves and our attitudes about race! I could buy that! I think that would be giving a bunch of writers and the producer a little more credit than they deserve though! I watched and I laughed too at the time. Now thinking back, sometimes I feel ashamed! I remember watching the show and thinking how awful Archie was and I felt bad for Edith for being with him. Oh my God !!...Good night...ohhhhhhhhhhh for the 50's......... |

The show deftly used humor to tackle racism and other topics that reflected the social consciousness of the day. And O’Connor was able to say the most asinine things and somehow be likable. Viewers embraced Archie Bunker not because they agreed with him but because he did not obey the rules of “proper” behavior that up to this point, had been television’s responsibility to uphold.
If there was a downside for O’Connor, it was that he was concerned that the public would not be able to see him as anyone except Archie. He still wanted to work as an actor after All in the Family – and its spinoff, Archie Bunker’s Place had run its course. Fortunately, his career entered a new chapter when he took the role of a Southern police chief, whose top detective is African American, in the series In the Heat of the Night, based on the 1967 film of the same name. The character was a complete departure from Archie Bunker, and O’Connor served as executive producer and head writer for the show, which aired from 1988-1994. http://h-monthly.com/issues/Volume2Issue9/CarrolOConnor.html |

Another quote from a blogger, that's all you've got here. Seems like people would wise up to the bias that ANYONE on the internet can produce. But, yes, Fox does carry a very conservative slant, and I'm glad for it. There are about 5 other stations who swing liberal, do I complain? Nope, I just turn the channel) Yes and so much for live & let live... I guess you would say that's politically correct only & all others need not apply. De Ja Vue the sick willie years.... I keep saying...TWO YEARS!!!! LOL People are not going to put up with the lib crap of trying to force political correctness down our throats. Or the commie witchunts. There are bigger problems to solve. |

which reminds me...how do you know when you've won an argument with a Liberal ?...they call you a racist... LOL...yes...I never found a lib who could justify themselves... unless it's putting someone else down that is. |

and why do they allow someone as vile and hateful as you to stay here??????

Of course some posters here have never known a liberal to win an argument.
Know why? Because when the liberal presents a reasoned fact based secular argument in support of their position said poster point their fingers and loudly call names refusing to listen to any of it. Take off the blinders! Free your mind! |

On a lighter note) I like black people, and I'm from the south, and my kids never heard the "n" word as a child, to the point that they actually called them brown people up until around age 9. It was cute) Wow, you must be mother of the year. Give yourself a pat on the back. *rolleyes* |

like Archie says..." everybody calls em' somethin' "... That's why it's called a sitcom. An archaic racist sitcom!!! its a satire about a bigot ..it's supposed to be racist..They even presented the black form.. George Jefferson!!That show is a hoot!! |

Actually I like things the way they should be...it's the libs who hide behind the live & let live song all while going to court to make illegal things legal. So much for protections for people...they want their Maypo after all. Right? They know they would never get private funding for their causes so they used govt. taxes to circumvent the goodness of our nation. They create govt. dependancy & want everyone to pay for it too. Talk about living on the plantation???? LOL That's the LIB mentality in the nutshell. Their eutopia is to make everything & everyone the same. Even if it means taking away religious freedoms as well as free speech from those who disagree or hold them accountable. The LIB mentality is to tie their opponents hands behind their back, blindfold them & gag them & call it a fair fight. You'll find out...soon. |
