Guess it's those damn unions!!!

According to reports, Toyota will again revise its earnings prediction to the point where second half losses will negate gains from the first half of 2008, resulting in the first yearly loss in 70 years.

Japanese news outlets are reporting Toyota will announce second half losses which will exceed the profits from the first half of the year, resulting in overall net loss for the 2008 fiscal year. This comes in the face of increasingly dire sales figures across the auto industry and against a background of bailout loans for GM and Chrysler announced this morning. Because of this trend, Toyota may refrain from making sales and production forecasts for 2009 in an effort to avoid bringing shame upon Toyota City when they cannot meet targets. [Reuters]

maybe auto makers should quit building spec cars

and go back to the order your care it will be here in 6 weeks

that is how it used to be (and you could get the car you wanted not have to take whats available)

would save the loss issue

just a thought

but hey

what do i know

Wouldn't these cars be much more expensive?

That's the way I understand modern production.

why would they

still the same parts

and the cars got more expensive because you have to pay for the interest on the money it take to build the cars sitting on the new car lot

(at an ave of 71$ [as reported in news article at bail out onset]an hour per auto worker not to mention materials that interst has got to be a big chunk)

if they build 10% spec cars give or take

and as orders come in they build the order car
and

spec cars to replace the spec cars that sell
for those who do not want to wait

just legalize the drugs to

look at the money savings and the profit on the tax

and how much oil do you think is out there

and how long do you want breathable air

maybe we should just go back to horses

Yes perhaps, but the production lines wouldn't be working around the clock anymore. The orders for the parts would be smaller, and therefore more expensive. Employees would either loose their jobs or would be put on shorter working times, therefore they wouldn't be able to spend as much money as before. So either way the economy would suffer.

if they would have kept it that way

the economy would be stable

it is the greed to make more money

so they (most large businesses) borrow money

then expand production

to try and sell more product

thus speculating on the profit (to meet expenses)

when their speculation is over expectation they lose money

when they lose money

they cut jobs

it would be better imo to

have steady growth using the old system

thus having a steady economy

rather than spendin money they don't have on speculating to high of sales

and causing a hard crash of the economy

but hey

what do i know

(other than i will never buy a new general motors car ever again)

By the looks of it, either way someone is going to suffer, and usually that would be the small man at the end of the food chain.ohwell

point is

they would not be suffering at all

if not for the greed of trying to have product on hand before it is sold

they would not be as many job losses if they were not there to begin with

and if the union would not have turned out to be as bad as the company before unions

how can someone costing 20$ an hour afford a product made by someone costing 71$ an hour
