I was at Target today, just buying a few things. The check out lady was an older lady, looked like she was Christmas help. Very nice lady, and when I was all done, she told me the standard "Happy Holidays". I just smiled and said, "You have a Merry Christmas!". The smile she got from me saying that just warmed my heart. She was so touched to hear me say it, and she responded with "Merry Christmas to you too". It wasn't anything special, but I could tell it meant something to her for me to respond with that.

And, in all honesty, it is the little things that we do (or don't do) on a daily basis that really make this world better or worse. I felt good leaving the store. Had a smile on my face just cause I knew I had made her day a little bit brighter. One act of random kindness is all it took.

Just thought I would share that.

i was volunteering for salvation army and a gentleman folded up a 10, a few ones, couldn't see what all he put in and asked me how much salvation costs..i said priceless, and he said right...many people gave change and i smiled at everyone, bc i know times are tight...and many may not have the means to give...hopefully the salvation army will be able to help some needing folks this season

It's amazing what a simple smile and "How are you?" can do, and it takes virtually no effort to do.

Goofball,

I always say "Please" and "Thank You" to cashiers and waitresses. Everybody wins.

Nice to hear you made some one day a bit better.

However there are some times I have to wonder..
why can't every body be as kind as you where to this lady that checked you at the store so you could be on your way.

I mean it's just being nice and that one bit of being nice goes a long way's, but instead some people have to get all bend out of shape and what not.

I will never understoodd it.Cashiers and every body else from baggers etc, goes through hell just to help you get out of the store as fast and as safe and happy as can be, but all most customers can do is carry on and wine and act all stuck up, it drives me a bit nuts, because I work in retail and I know how this all goes.

So if the shoe was on the other foot so to speak and you got treated the same very way.. rude and all as you had been to that Cashier and they turned around and did that to you.. I bet you wouldn't like it one bit.

Bottom line it shouldn't matter rather it's the holiday times or not, every body should try to be a bit nicer to every body. Because you never know when the person on the other side will reach the breaking point and just snap and go crazy and take it all out on you.

You may want to think about that. I mean who knows when that Cashier or person bagging your bags has reach his or her final breaking point because of something stuiped you might have said or done.

I'm not saying any body here has done this but all in all I'm sure some one has been a bit rude to some one through out there life time when at a store etc.

I mean I wouldn't be rude to some one who is handling your order at a fast food place because you might be in the ER that night if your not careful, never know.

Good for you Goof, you made that lady's day.

I'm also one of those people who says "please," "thank you," and "have a nice day" to the cashier and when you stop and a lot of times the person is genuinely touched.

When you mean it...when it comes from within you and is not forced...people do respond to kindness.

Okay everyone...let's hold hands and sing Christmas carols.laugh

A friend at work brought me supper that she made at home. I was deeply touched that someone would do that for me.

On a medical run yesterday I helped get a patient from his home to the hospital because he needed to see a doctor.

I love being an EMT student and a volunteer support person for a fire department because that is the best way to help someone.
