Winter Rose
Winter whims are calling But I am dreaming of his face Will he smile Will he embrace? Winter whims are calling I will not give into the ebony cold night For even winter roses must find the fight. Though silence keeps me so bound Like a tendril drowned in misery I know I am loved Yet tonight, I feel the world closing in on me Like the last rays of sunshine being snuffed out By the old hand of cracking life So where do I start Except a place I can be understood, In word, In deed, In thought, Within me. So is home, home, or someone else’s tome, Share a thistle thorny word I’m off to catch that morning warm bird He seems to tell me everything I think his name is sing, Sing me a lullaby Blooming days I want to walk in winter lands Where bears lurk behind bushes Where children used to play, I want to see the robin red breasted And the geese flying over head. I want to see your face tonight Lying with me In bed, But I know this is a foolish thought For that would be a sin I don’t even know your name yet, Such frivolous ideas Such false ideals of sin, So now I back away from lies For I am only lying to myself If I took a lover up He would be miserable for sure So until the night when I can sleep In peace with him by my side I’ll let the winter snow fall Until the chill can slide Down the walls I put up.
