So what do you do about allergies? Any good suggestions/ideas? Right now
my nose is like a leaky faucet that won't turn off! I've tried a lot of
different things like allergy medicines, hot tea, hot baths, cleaning up
my apartment (dust), and drinking lots of fluids. Do I just have to chop
off my nose???

Try going for some allergy tests if you haven't already to see what you
are allergic too and they can give you injections of histamines to build
up your resistance to them!!!!

I had allergy shots for awhile until I got pregnant!!!!!

Some people use air filters and such. Wash your bedding weekly in hot
water to kill house dust mites and run your pillows through the dryer on
hot for 20 minutes (I think that is what they told me). I have dust
mite allergy, is almost impossible to get rid of those things. A trip
to the doctor for testing is good, and you can do the shots if you want,
I never did, have just put up with them. I use the prescription nasal
sprays when they get bad, and over the counter meds, Sudafed for
congestion, and prescription antihistamine (Singulair) or you can buy
Claritin over the counter now. Other than trying to keep the house as
dust free as possible, with things blooming now, there is a ton of
pollen out there. Use hypoallergenic laundry detergent and I don't use
fabric softener or anything with perfumes in it. Hope this helps.

It's just kind of ridiculous...everything is in bloom and I haven't been
able to get a good night's sleep for a few weeks now. Okay so I will try
the washing of my bed linens and pillows weekly, and also going to the
doctor to see what kind of shots are available. I'll also go to Safeway
or something to see what kind of over-the-counter meds I can get.

I know what you are saying, La..I have so many allergies, don't think I
could stand that many shots. It has rained here, hopefully washing the
pollen out of the air...should help.
I have tried an old fashion remedie...Vicks vaporub, helps some.

An idea for next year.
Go to the local farmers market, now, and buy some wild bee pollen. You
want it freshly collected in the season that affects you the most. Put
it in the fridge. This next winter, start adding it to things you eat,
like smoothies and such. You’ll start to build up a tolerance before the
blooms bust open.
I did this when I moved to where I am now. It made a big difference and
I can make it through the spring and summer with just a few sneezes.

Good luck with this year, shots seem to help folks in the short term.

my 10 year old has allergies so bad her ENT is talking about a minor
surgery said it would not stop it completely but would slow her drip way
down. so we will see i have to take her back in a couple of weeks the
nasonex and claritin and even low dose of steroids has never helped her
we just keep going in this cycle! it is awful!! feel so bad for her!

I've run the gamut on allergy meds. Steriods, antihist., the works. I
know what it is; the doc knows what it is--it's the animals! Since
getting rid of them is not an option, I guess I'll just have to shut up
and live with! Esperenza, don't chop off your nose. Even if it's
useless, it's a nice decoration on your face. HAHA
