Am I the only person left who knows that the guy who originally had the hit with "Blue Christmas" was Ernest Tubb in 1947?
(THAT'S where Elvis learned the song, by the way..........) |

Naw, I don't want to split hairs, it's just that, to this day, I'm flabbergasted that ANYONE even associates "Blue Christmas" with Elvis Presley (or the song, "Blue Suede Shoes" for that matter)......
.......and as far as I'm concerned, bigger record sales and pop radio exposure are NOT valid excuses..... |

Well, as far as I know, there's at least 65 renditions of "Blue Christmas" out there, maybe more. Arguably, Elvis' is the most popular version.
On the other hand, Carl Perkins wrote and recorded "Blue Suede Shoes", and it went all the way up the pop charts to #2 for 4 weeks (#1 on the country charts for 3 weeks), while Elvis' version only peaked at #20. The funniest thing is, they were released only a month apart (Perkins in March of '56, Elvis in April). |
