can anyone recomend a media player that can play dvds no problem?

GOM Player does pretty good. It'll play DVDs, .flv, .mov, .mpg, .wmf, and anything else you can throw at it.

Another pretty decent media player VLC Media Player as well. It's not as fancy or as whiz-bangy as GOM player, but it's just as well-featured with the media support.

If you don't like those you can try Power DVD its a paying one but you can get the basic version for free it plays DVD's and other formats.

Most can, windows media player can if you have the codec.

All movie players can play DVD's but the important thing to note is you HAVE to have the DVD codec. unfortunately this is not provided with any players that I'm aware of unless commercially purchased (WinDVD, Power DVD etc). Hope this helps.
