I have to admit that I dig the Starship Troopers movie (even though it bears no resemblance to the novel)

the sarcasm and tongue in cheek slams at "propaganda patriotism" made me laugh

Yea, if taken on it's own without comparing it to the book, it is a fun and amusing romp of a comedy/adventure.

I believe that there is a part 3 now. Part 2 sucked, when will they learn!

I saw part 3. it was more along the lies of the first one. the second one was stupid (I thought)

 The Dune novels by Frank Herbert and his son are excellent. Dont watch the movies. They suck. But the novels are classics.drinker
I would have to agree with that. Hoover to the max. laugh

And on that same subject, if anyone has seen "Starship Troopers", the book was another one of Heinlein's Hugo winners. The movie can only be described as "a monumental hatchet job". It is virtually nothing like the book.

Also, the movie "Robert Henilein's The Puppet Masters" was only a slightly better representation of the book it was based on. That is to say, on a scale of 1-10, Starship Troopers would be a 1 and Puppet Masters would be maybe a 4.
 Seen them and read them.:smile:I have read almost all of these SF authors that everyone is naming, at one time or another:smile:

I was just going to mention that the Dune movies were horrible so I never bothered with the novels. I wish I had just read them before trying to watch that stuff.
 Basically forget everything about the movies and read the novels. The crappy movies totally screwed up the Dune franchise. The books are a zillion times better. You will pretty much barf after you read the books and then watch how badly they screwed up in the movie versions. If I was Frank Herbert or his son, I would be pissed.laugh

I love the first Dune movie. Frank Herbert helped make the movie, I read an article he wrote about how hard it was to make the movie. The books are much better though. But I think the stuff his son has written sucks.

Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series was really good at the beginning...it slowed down around book 6 or 7 and then sped back up. He died, but a friend of his is finishing the last book...or maybe finished. I'll have to look around to see if it has been published yet.

Yes I must agree Robert Jordan is great. I also enjoy David Eddings.

Xanth is what hooked me on Piers Anthony. I've really enjoyed everything I've ever read of his.

The Riverworld series left me cold. I though it was a great premise - just way too slow for me. But I think he won a Hugo for it, so there were a lot of people who liked it an awful lot.

And I don't think anyone has mentioned Ringworld yet. Another must read, Hugo winning classic.

Another Heinlein fan is always welcome.

Yes! Woodrow Wilson Smith AKA Lazarus Long AKA Aaron Sheffield AKA Theodore Bronson AKA Ernest Gibbons...from "Methusela's Children" through "Time Enough For Love" and "The Number of the Beast" to "To Sail Beyond the Sunset", one of the greatest SciFi characters of all time.

(Ok, ok. My fanatacism is showing. I know. laugh)

I dug Number of the Beast. when they went to Oz. and I always loved the Swordsman of Mars so it was cool to see John Carter and Deejah Thoris in Heinleins book

Yeah, and their little trip through the Lensemen series and Gullivers Travels and Alice In Wonderland and Nightfall and one other one that I forget. Way cool. One of my favorites. Especially the last chapter. (Speaking of which {-hint-} do you want those answers or are you still working on them?)
