Youll be fine, every time I have gone, I have been fine. But I have a high tolerance for pain, not that its painful though. They are really ncie as well and will make sure you are comfortable and able to move about without fainting, that is why the snacks and drinks.Tshirts and fluro wrap is just a cool perk !!!

But it really is a wonderful thing you are doing tomorrow.

I'm going to the blood donor clinic tomorrow to see if they will be able to take my blood this time

I had steak for dinner tonight, but I was wondering what I should have for breakfast and how soon before I go there should I eat it?

I don't want to faint or throw up or something indifferent indifferent indifferent

Has anyone here donated blood and how was it?

just eat and sleep prior to. they get a little bit antsy about taking your blood if you havent ate or slept in the past 24 hours.

answer all questions honestly.

and dont forget, find a place that you can donate PLASMA at....and they usually pay you to donate.
then, just beware of all the crackheads.

It's no biggie!

Just rest a few minutes before you leave!

It's so nice of you to donate blood!
bigsmile
Blood banks need donations badly this time of year.

Last year around this time I was scheduled to donate and was going to ask about how I would go about seeing if I was a bone marrow match for someone. My friend from highschool had a little boy who had cancer and needed a bone marrow transplant. Unfortunately, the day I was suppose to donate, I ended up having to attend his funeral.

Just think each time you donate, you are saving up to 3 people's lives. If you donate plasma or platelets you can give more often. I haven't worked up the courage to do that. I heard that when they put back in the parts they don't use you get cold because of the saline solution.

Lately my iron level haven't allowed me to give. Once it took like 5 tries before it got to the level in needed to be. After Hurricane Ike, there was a mobile drive in the area and I went...damn level was one point low. I waited til Monday to go to the blood bank. That was a pain in the a$$ - I think the whole way there only two lights actually worked, the rest were flashing red. But I made it there and was able to give. I gave right before Thanksgiving so I can't give again until after the New Year.

I kind of like donating blood. I always eat shredded wheat before I go - loaded with iron. It doesn't hurt to give blood, and you're helping others in need. And I don't know about where you are, but here you also get free sloppy joes, and they're damn good, too ^.^

Eat a very good meal right before you go, and drink plenty of fluids. Carefull not to drink too much soda, maybe drink lemonade. I give quite often, and I always do better when I do this.

I'm a universal donor, but they're not getting it.

If they want to charge an arm and a leg, they can pay me for it. Nobody gets a drop until they pay me or it's entirely socialized.

Ive tried to donate blood but they say my veins collapse.

I did however work at a blood donor clinic and most of the time people get orange juice and cookies afterwards.

Some of the places around where I work have blood drives out front where people can stop in to do it from time to time. The businesses offer incentives to people and employees who take the time to donate, since they give you a little card you can redeem. It is a worthy cause with or without the incentives that are offered. No cookies or juice or anything though. At least none of the times I went.
