We have the instinct of natural selection only because of the need for it thousands of years go. With science and technology these days we don't pay much importance to it at all.

All natural selection cares about is how many children you have, or will have, and the capability and probability of your children to have children and so on .

AKA reproductive success

its an artificial selection(only in humans)which is part of the natural selection, we choose who we mate with,period,as humans if we dont find someone attractive then we won't mate if we find someone who is and they accept then we mate so looks are more than people lead on to believe,but what some may not find attractive others will,so basically there is someone out there who will accept ya..

Because some people don't want to appear "shallow," and they say looks don't matter so as to give the impression that they're above all that superficial stuff.

Those people these days who say looks aren't important merely are lying about that. They [looks] are important they are extremely important, too important at times, none the less important.

Hence why I commented on the fact that N/S was something from back thousands of years ago. When women were merely attracted to strong athletic men who were able to bring home the so called "bacon" at the time so feed them to keep them alive. Men were attracted to women who had nice hips and breasts to be able to give birth to children and nurture them.
